I have worked a deal to have a limited run pistol made for our gun shop. One of the commonly referenced gun manufactures on this forum is working with us to build 25 guns to our specs.
I really wanted to go with a classic government, Ryan our shop GM wants to go more tactical on a commander frame with a threaded barrel.
So we are going to bring it to you, the best group of 1911 folks on the internet.
Tell us how you would build it. If you were working with a major manufacture of 1911's to have a gun built to your specs to be sold to the shooting community, what would you build...
I would love to see something along the lines of the NH Colts, with that level of quality parts in all the right places at a similar price point using the Government platform. Instead of serrations on the front strap, I would prefer to see machine checkering at 25 LPI and a durable, no-nonsense finish. That would get my attention. One run in .45 ACP and another in 9MM.
Would you guys buy a gun with a shops logo on it. I want to have this series be known for what they will be a collaboration from my shop but I am hesitant to put my logo on it....
I love the discreet logo/name under the grip, maybe with a 1 of 25 or similar as well. Keeps things clean but still lets you (and future buyers if you sell) that you're holding something special.
Personally don't like most logos/billboards on my stuff, especially if I've paid a grip of money for it.
I’m with Mtek on this. If this would be a run for just people at the shop I would say go for it but if you’re opening up for sale I would say logo under grip panel or have some custom grips made with your logo
My favorite is a deep polish blued with no serrations, lightweight hammer and trigger, with Novak cuts, over sized 1 sided safety, and slide lock. Then roll that logo right at the back side of the slide on one side.
What I imagine in my head right now is a beautiful simple piece of timeless workmanship. A BBQ party gun is what I imagine. If there are only going to be 25, make them special.
Logo would be cool, even though I'm not into foo-foo/pretty guns. As I'm more of an outlier here, so I'll keep my opinions on your new run to myself. But I am having thoughts about building a commander-length, coned/ramped barrel, night-sights, ambi-safety 1911 in 38 Super Comp or 40 S&W as a working man's gun.
Shop Recognition? A special serialization, WGC 01 - WGC 025. Also do the under grip panel logo. I think the special serial number would be awesome!
As for the gun finish, I've only seen one and it was beautiful & unique, Silver Nitride, and I think STLGECKO bought it, a NH Trooper I believe. I wanted that one. I would suggest Nitride whether plain black, silver, or smoked because of price and it's a great finish.
The gun itself, a classic naked slide except logos 1911, Maybe something like the Thunder Ranch or Trooper & change up the rear cocking serrations & slide top or slide itself. But above all, keep it affordable!
Government vs. Commander? 6 for 1, 1/2 dozen for the other. I think a Special Commander might be a little more unique.
As for caliber, I'm a 38 super fan but I think a 9mm followed very close by the 45 would sell the best.
These are just my thoughts & also, I wouldn't even look at a tactical version but once!
I love the idea of a 9mm/38 super combo, but my vote would be DLC slide over hard chrome frame and have Cherokee hills do walnut grips. Government size, magwell and your logo on both sides behind the rear cocking serrations.
