Yes absolutely! Ideally you want a proper sized port so you don’t need an adjustable gas block. BUT, that is absolutely a great solution to solve an oversized gas port.
I don’t know a single credible person not stuck in the 1980s (or earlier) that would recommend a .308 for HD. That round barely gets the nod for LR anymore. It’s 2020, get a quality 5.56 and load it with a decent round that’s actually designed to kill people instead of wasting money on a cheap .308 that’ll have questionable reliability or paying out the ass for a solid one that’s more than you need because you don’t even plan on shooting at distance.
I'm not here to argue just my researched opinion on a SHTF full defense CQB weapon. 308 was the answer, AR platform too, but a short barrel creates a lot of issues. Found that SA worked out the issues and sold the SV308 pistol. Bought one, love it. There is a lot of opinion out there on what cartridge is best. 308 like the 1911 has been field tested for a long time. I think the move to 5.56 was weight on the battlefield. Well I'm not going anywhere and I have a dozen 25rd mags that agree with me.
