The 1911 grip setup that feels the best in my hand is the Colt enhanced, high cut trigger guard, long trigger, Ed Brown grip safety and an arched mainspring housing. I bought a Para Ordnance LTC that I was going to have made up into a custom CCW, but have since decided that I'd be sinking a lot of money into it, and only to find that it isn't really what I want. I've tried switching MSHs with the Wilson Protector; it's close but still not quite there.
Enter Alchemy Custom Weaponry. Never handled one, but claims to be the highest grip. MSH should be easily swapped. I keep waffling between the Brimstone and the Carry.
So, my path splits here:
Find an enhanced commander for $800-1000, maybe obtain new parts for $200-400(depending on new barrel) a 1911 smith(unknown cost and build time)
Or
ACW for $3000ish and eight months or so window?
The ACW is obviously an excellent pistol. That said, I'd go with the Colt setup; reasonable initial cost, the basic ergos you want, you can enjoy it right out of the box and have the work done as your budget allows. Use a well known shop and keep your supporting paperwork. Your resale value will be decent.
Im figuring this is going to be a carry gun so save a bunch of cash and go with a Colt combat elite . High Cut ,checkered front and back also comes stock with night sights gives you a great grip and is about $1500 cheaper than ACW .
I have both in 5in guns and they are both beautiful ,accurate ,reliable pistols but one is not $1500 better than the other IMO.
and most important one has a horse on it LOL
This gives you a picture of how each one is undercut for comparison but only holding them in your hand gives you the accurate impression and the ACW feels like it gives you the higher hold of the two guns if that is your main criteria .

My buddies has the Combat Elite in a defender size pistol chambered in 9mm . This is really a fine carry weapon as it has an all steel frame rather than the alloy used in regular defenders .
This gun shoots like a dream in 9mm extremely controllable for such a small pistol .
Heck don't waffle you could have the commander and defender size Combat Elites one in 45 and one in 9mm with enough left over for a ham sandwich and still be under the ACW tag .
Those 2 guns would provide some serious carry flexibility and you could just go buy them .
