Im well stocked. I bought while the getting was good. I can understand folks who were not through a shortage. Caught in this newest one. But folks who been through them. Should have been prepared. A tip to save some dough. The big box stores are not price gouging. Keep an eye on their stock. And buy when you can. Brickseek is a good source. An example. Google '' CCI standard velocity 22lr walmart'' The results will show the brickseek link. Go there and put your zip code in. It will show what's available.

I have been through a couple of shortages, but I'll admit I failed to plan ahead for this one. From the time I really started getting back into firearms back in 2013-2014, there were a few big shortages, but the majority were only one or two calibers (like the .22 lr shortage a couple of years ago), or, at most were only really hitting store-bought ammo. Since I reload, having store-bought ammo go scarce didn't really bother me.

I'll admit that losing not only store-bought ammo but also reloading components really caught me flat-footed, and it really shouldn't have. I've been kicking myself in the butt since April. And like I said in another thread: Once we get through this, I promise I will never, ever, EVER allow my inventory to drop blow 5000 rounds of store-bought ammo, with reloading components for an additional 10000 rounds.

I'll say it again. When this blows over, if it ever does. Start buying a hunnert rounds of whatever caliber/gauge a week. Always buy ammo to go to the range. Buy more than you will shoot. Buy some airtight ammo cans to store it in. That works out to a minimum of 52hunnert rounds purchased per year. I call it dollar cost averaging. Some I get on sale, some not. The price evens out over the course of time. Been doing that since Sandy Hook. On hiatus now though, prices are nuts.

Since I’m on a Hiatus from RSO duties I’ve not been shooting on a regular regiment, With that I did get caught with not having a great supply of .45 projectiles on hand, mostly due in part too improper inventory control Lol, (had 9mm projectiles boxes stacked under boxes of .45 projectiles)
Caught the error months ago so I’ve been able to catch up and remedy the miss calculation.

What’s really concerning it’s not just a few calibers there’s a shortage of.
it’s started compounding on all ammunition availability now.

Just a general observation (Working retail Firearms) over the last 6 months the general populous are arming them selves up! Ages18-80. Shotguns, long guns, handguns it doesn’t matter. And everyone wants Bullets/shells. Had a customer recently drive 6 plus hours to buy a SCAR.

Yup...we've been inundated with new CCW applications....backlogged about 2 months for application reviews (criminal background checks, etc), plus another 1 month to schedule fingerprints....and that's just for the Temporary Local CCW permit...then it's another few months for the STATE to review the application and then issue the official CCW.....

and all these new shooters are buying whatever they can, wherever they can. LGS ran out of some brands of 9mm and 45's....can't even get more....ammo flew off the shelves...and we are in an affluent area, so folks would come in and buy $1,000's of dollars of stuff at a time...grrrrrr.....
