SA Operator SANDPAPER GRIPS? What are these?

Fondled an SA TRP Operator last weekend, and it had these crazy sandpaper grips on them. Shop said they came that way from the factory.

Called SA Customer service... said they didn't know what make they were, couldn't even tell me if it was something they manufactured there or purchased from another maker for OEM installation.

These are NOT the JB Burner grips or the ones found on the SiG TacOps. They were literally like emery board or sandpaper. Would love to get my hands on a pair...

Anybody have any info?

Interesting.... was just talking to Joe this morning about some custom work, thanks all!

PS - Upon inspection, these are NOT the same grips. These are a very rough textured molded grip, the ones on this SA Operator were literally emery board or sandpaper somehow molded into that shape. Even on close inspection they did not appear to have something applied to the surface of an existing grip, they appeared to be solid all the way through. Anyone know any SA insiders we could ask?

They come standard with TRP full rail models (and a second set of wood grips). Can't speak for the half rail TRP and whether they come with the grips or not.
Inexpensive to replace since the grit will wear off eventually.
Effective, but not grips you want to use for a long day at the range and 400+ rounds. With gloves, maybe. Also, I learned quickly not ones for IWB carry-- they'll literally bleed your love handles.

If you can't source them, I use "Skid Guard" (https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKID-GUARD-Reflective-Mineral-Abrasive-Anti-Slip-Tape/3185621) for my grips. I just trace the outline, cut them out and place them back on the factory wood grips. They do wear out, and in the summer time they can peel, but they are very inexpensive! The grip is REALLY good too.

Kensight or Ergo would probably be your best bet. https://www.ergogrips.net/shop/ergo-xtr-square-bottom-hard-rubber-1911-grip-black/

According to a poster on the other forum, they were exclusive on TRP CA-Complaint full-rail models. Here's a direct quote from Rob:

"AlchemyCustom:

Springfield actually used to "make" the grips themselves. They would actually get bald wood grips and get the "sand" applied to the grips. There is no "vendor" to speak of. That's the way it used to be done a few years ago. I don't know about now. Things are subject to change."

The post was from 2012, so it's very likely SA doesn't produce these anymore. I have a sneaky suspicion that a VERY light coat of clear epoxy and a dump truck amount of sand would have good results. I have the epoxy, if you send me bald grips I'll try it! Hope that helps!
