This may be another of those like the best 1911 thread, but am wondering everyone's opinion as to the best leather holster for the 1911. I have an Ed Brown Special Forces Carry coming and wanted to get a nice holster, magazine carrier, and belt for it, and can't decide what to get. I've read about Milt Sparks, El Paso Saddlery, Del Fatti, and some others, the names of which I can't remember right now. For a real nice rig, maybe (doesn't have to though) with some exotic skin on it, who would you suggest?
I decided to get TT Gunleather's Reinforced IWB for my Springfield Operator and two matching mag pouches. He's really become my go-to for leather in the last two years. Quality leather, quick turnaround, and very responsive.
I have carried my lightweight Special Forces Carry in a Milt Sparks Nexus for years. Good luck getting a new Del Fatti; he hasn’t taken any orders in years. I got lucky and stumbled on a never-used Del Fatti amber elephant set for cost and snatched it up the moment I saw it.
Garrett Industries - best of both worlds. Leather lined Kydex. Been using my for 4 years. I don't know what process they use to bond the leather to the Kydex but mine shows no signs of separation.
TTGunleather, here's my owb snap in sharkskin with belt and double mag pouch to match. I just ordered a owb scabbard for my full sized 1911's. Tim is very responsive and aims to please. As long as I can get what I want from him I have no desire to shop anywhere else. I've read up on him and he's a heck of a guy.
I've been using Bianchi equipment for about 30+ years, been very, very happy with them. OK, none of it is the latest and newest designs, but then neither am I. I figure if it becomes a classic there IS a reason.
Bought a few kydex holsters off ebay for $5. Marked Fobis and BLACKHAWK!, made in China, so who knows if they really are. I am quite taken with the fit of my railed 1911 in them and the quality, so far anyway. Have not given them the EDC and beating the Bianchi has taken, and while the Bianchi gear may not LOOK cutting edge, it still works, and at a fair and reasonable price. Besides, if I need to use it, I don't expect anyone to be checking out my holster, just the draw.
I have one Warbird product, bought on a whim from an Addict. IWB, great production, good working holster. What's the best way to touch base with the maker?
Sam Andrews (andrewscustomleather.com) makes amazing holsters out of every beast you can think of, and he'll customize them to your liking. He's also a really nice guy and welcomes calls from prospective customers. Give him a call, he's great to talk to.
I couldn't be any happier than I am with my Mernickle PS6. After using it for EDC and putting it through the abuse of a Thunder Ranch course, it looks and feels like new. I think the design has actually improved my draw as well. Highly recommend.
You should check out Sam Andrews at Andrews Custom Leather. His work is beautiful, he has all kinds of exotic skins, plus he’s a great guy and he carries a 1911. What more could you ask for?
