Full disclosure never really heard the name or recall any threads on here about him..
There's a thread on TOOS and one guy claims to be close to 25 years into his wait for his gun to hit his bench the the other guy waited 11 years (2004 to 2015).
And, oh, 12 years for a Rogers build.
I’ve run across a Colt marked “Phil Perry Customs” on the slide but I can’t find any information about him as a builder or any shops by that name. Pistol is in FL but I know that doesn’t mean it’s from there originally.
Does that name ring a bell with anyone?
So one day I have aspirations to build 1911's as a second career. Who knows if I'll get there, but kind of tired of sitting behind a desk, and as I near 40, I'm always up for learning new things. Going to full on gunsmith just is not an option for me due to location. But I would like to start...
So the only fully extended slide release i can find thats decent is the wilson combat bullet proof extended slide release but thats only for the 45. Anyone have any experience “fitting” one of these in a 9mm whats it take? Thanks !
Or does any one know of a good extended slide release thats not...
Do any of y’all have a first-hand familiarity with Black Thistle Gunsmithing in WI? I’m trying to learn a little about the quality & consistency of their 1911 work. I have no interest in stirring chitt so PM me if you’re more comfortable doing that. Thank you.
Hello folks. My Father-in-law is looking into gunsmithing and wanted my help, and since I am not a smith, just a shooter I would like to put this out there to our smiths in here. My F-I-L has the Penn Foster or a modern gunsmithing courses available to him. Any thought would be welcome.
Anybody know any smiths without long wait times that’d do:
Fit thumb safety & slidestop
Replace sights (existing Novak sight cuts)
Change grip bushings
Probably doesn’t matter but gun is Colt Wiley Colt Govt.
I picked up this 1970 Colt Lightweight Commander in 9mm from GB and my intention is to have this done in blue (maybe a blued'd slide over hard chrome but don't know if you can hard chrome an alloy frame) and be a ying to the yang I have at Nighthawk ( Colt Commander in 38 super to be done in...
Hi all. I don’t sell these but have received several requests asking where to get the Shooboy Hammer. With Randy Schue’s permission, here is his contact info.
I believe they are $53 shipped with 5 heads. 1 steel, 1 aluminum, 1 brass, 1 light polymer, and 1 denser...
So another thread has rekindled my interest in getting a custom undercut so while searching with no real luck looking for input on a good gunsmith to do custom undercut along the lines of a colt or Alchemy. Pics are also welcome!
For sale is a professionally perfected 9mm 1911 Commander set up for concealed carry, along with the best holsters and gear out there to carry it with (plus extras). Real workhorse setup. Everything included in along with this pistol is linked below. Pics at bottom.
This pistol started life...
So I picked up a DW specialist the other day. Love Dan Wesson, really good quality for the money. Anyway, taking it down, checking it out, I always look all the parts over etc. Took this image of the hammer/ sear engagement. This does not look like the proper neutral relationship. Am I missing...
I will freely admit I am clueless about ordering custom options on owned 1911s. I have read a lot about trigger jobs, adding magwells.... Yet I am clueless as to where to start. To our guys in the know---any chance you guys might start a thread detailing the work you like to have done and...
Below is a recent experience I had with a gunsmith. I don't know what to think about it. More qualified opinions are welcome. (Note: The feed problems I was experiencing seemed very much like the problems in this thread.)
I took two S.A. 1911's to a gunsmith - a Range Officer Compact 4" with...
Picked up a surplus Mauser-labeled Hi Power recently and would love to send it out. Not looking for a fully tweaked setup, just someone to make it sound. Trigger is heavy but not gritty. Looking for:
- full respring
- lighter trigger pull
- whack the sights in line
Firstly, let me state that this is NOT a grievance thread nor am I looking to elicit that from anyone in terms of their experiences or in any way in response to questions posed.
Question is though, have you had a poor or bad experience with a gunsmith, have you gotten your gun back and the...
