If you’re thinking, boy- I wish I could find a gun safe for my car that is highly theft resistant, kiddo / nosy people resistant and mounts with an air bladder that conforms to any space in a car, even my Mercedes 550? Let me tell ya, it’s this cat above. I have been through the ringer trying to...

Is there a visual guide somewhere? I'm trying to figure out which one I need to replace the ambi on my WC. I have Sig, DW, WC and Remington but I don't know what each safety type is. Any help is appreciated. Tried googling and just get product pages.
  5. Staccato/STI/2011
My Staccato C digs into the web of my shooting hand right beside my thumb knuckle. I think that it is a lack of blending of the thumb safety, but not sure if it is also the thumb relief cuts on the beaver. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I think that I understand the differences between series 70 and series 80 in regards to the firing block safety. From what I can gather Springfield uses a titanium firing pin plus a stronger spring to avoid AD from an inertial fire if dropped on the barrel. Do any of these protect from a fall...

Anyone have any experience with dealing with DW on gun tuning or repairs? I have a new used ECO 45. It looks like it's not been shot much if even any. No visible signs of wear. My issue is with the safety. It has a solid positive feel disengaging but mushy engaging, no click. I suppose I...

My writing skill sucks I know...please excuse my mistakes. On april 24, I was in California visiting my parents. At around 3 am, I was on my way back to my parents home. Traffic light was turning red so I stopped my car at the intersection. My car was only car at the intersection. Suddenly...

Looking for a blued Colt tear drop thumb safety. Ideally NOS, or at least not filed in much to fit. Prefer it not to be a cast part. all the ones I can find for sale are roughly cast, well used, or not quite made correctly.

The thumb safety on my Colt is predictably squishy but what's probably more annoying to me is that it has a very visible pockmark in it. I'm sending this Colt off to Wilson for some work and their deluxe blue refinish and I can't live with the idea of having a very nice looking gun but with a...

EDIT: As an update, I got over this within a couple days. I now ride the safety and it feels really good and natural. I don’t know if it was my initial grip or what, but now it’s 100% comfortable and shooting any other way now feels weird. I just picked up my new 1911 Dan Wesson Vigil Commander...

Is this what people are referring to when they talk about a mis-timed Series 80 safety? This plunger has nicks around its entire circumference. If so, what's the best route forward for this gun? I'm thinking of having this "converted" to a Series 70 setup while it's being rebuilt.

The only 1911 pistol I own that has an ambi safety is a Springfield and it is the type that rides under the right side grip panel. I've never really been a fan of it and always thought that it's creating an unnecessary weak link in the design of the pistol. I've noticed that on pretty much...

OK, so I was perusing Novak's website tonight, and I see that many of their custom 1911 packages include the "Answer" 1-piece mainspring housing/backstrap. This made me wonder how many 1911 owners here have it or have otherwise pinned the grip safety. Why (or why not) do it? And is it a big...

As recommended I have been watching and reading as much information as I can but specifically it was suggested to me I learn to completely strip my 1911 and learn about the internal parts and how they work. So after a week I was finally confident that I could comfortablely manage to disassemble...

I wanted to install a thumb safety on my 2011 that gave a better, more solid feel for those of us who hold a pistol in the 'other' hand as much or more than the 'right' one. ;) So I was looking at pinned safeties, and came across one on the EGW site that uses a extended hammer pin to...

I have not had a ND or anything, but today I took my Auto Ordnance 1911 apart to swap out the hammer. When I reassembled everything I placed the safety on to test it, and when I pulled the trigger the hammer dropped and the safety disengaged. I disassembled the gun, and what the issue seemed to...

I’m finding myself in need of lockable gun storage. I’ve been doing research on gun safes. I came across a YouTube channel where a locksmith demonstrates breaking into most box store gun safes in under 10 minutes. I came across a lockable tool box that would be perfect. Gun storage with a...

Has anyone ever experienced or heard of the thumb safety on an ambi 1911 becoming disengaged somehow while holstered (IWB / OWB) ? Like sitting the wrong way on a wire-frame chair tripping the ambi safety lever somehow? Am I crazy for thinking this is a concern?
