This lightweight 9mm Colt Combat Commander originally belonged to my father. He purchased it in the late 60’s and it was one of the guns he used to teach me to shoot. In his retirement, he traded it for a golf cart. After his passing, it was returned to me nonfunctional. Several years ago, Jason Burton restored and modernized it. It now functions flawlessly and eats whatever I feed it. Thank you, Jason, for returning a piece of my father too me and, in the process, creating a true “heirloom.”

A "rescue" of sorts - A Remington R1 (Ilion NY build) that I bought as a lower frame assembly, from a shop in Virginia, who had acquired it from a police auction. I found a NOS Remington "Tactical" slide on eBay, added some Novak-cut Kensights, and used a Colt '70 series barrel and collet bushing, along with other various brand parts. Funny thing, I haven't found a "Tactical" model R1 in any Remington literature, so I wonder if it was something planned but not really marketed before their bankruptcy / breakup as part of Cerberus Group.

This build presented a number of challenges to Jason due to the condition of the light weight lower and the slide to receiver fit was a big one. The only way we could solve that fit issue was with the installation of the Acc-U-Rails.

The gun has preformed flawlessly since Jason worked his magic on it. It's not a safe queen and has been through numerous classes and is shot regularly. The rails and slide show absolutely minimal signs of wear so far.
