1911 Slide Milling

I have a question regarding the milling of a 1911 slide for mounting a Trijicon RMR mounting plate. If the initial milling cut is deep enough to actually enter into the firing pin channel, is there a professional repair for restoring the slide? I assume it is possible to actually add steel back to correct the over cut but is that not just a crude repair?

Cut a half-round section to weld back in the gap and then reblend it?
This is just my opinion, but I would not want to try building up metal by welding. The slide is a heat treated piece, and the welding could very well destroy it.

I would just buy another slide and chalk that one up to experience.
I should possibly add that the manufacturer no longer makes the specific model in the original caliber. The quality lever of the manufacturer very good.
Cannot weld back into that firing pin tunnel imo the slide is toast. Without seeing it maybe the rmr plate could slotted to imitate the top of the firing pin tunnel, but at this kind of depth I would suspect it also cut the top out of the extractor tunnel as well? This is complete speculation.

Well that's not something you see everyday. I guess they did what they had to, to get it that small.
