    I stood in your shoes about 10 years ago. The single thing I found most helpful was the Kuhnhausen 1911 Shop Manual. It's a two volume set, and, IMHO, both volumes are absolutely necessary for the beginner. Not only did his manuals show & explain how to do various fitting and assembly items, it also explained the complete functioning of a 1911 pistol. The thorough understanding of how the pistol is supposed to work is essential to building a 1911 that you can trust and be proud of.
