Sure, they are 100 years old, expensive, heavy, low-capacity, grandpa guns that are difficult to clean, take a trip to a smiff and $1,000 worth of work just to run right with aftermarket magazines....but we all love them. For me...it's simple.

    They blow up Nazi tanks.

    What say you?

Unlike a plastic gun, if I miss and have to hit someone a good solid 1911 is much better.

You KNOW Hanks was shooting a Detla!

    Battle worthy.
    Time tested.
    Slow moving big bullet.

    What's NOT to love!

The 1911 embodies the golden age of men and machines.. It takes us back to a time and place that holds a special spot in the psyche. A place where men were men and American GI was saving the world.. Sometimes I go to the range and become someone else. I step up to the lane table, lay out my 12-14 magazines, set the pistol on the range towel and run the target downrange. While the target settles I check my eyeglasses, ears and assume whatever stance feels good that day. Next I press a magazine home, rack the slide, check the sight picture and press the trigger. I like to volley fire on a two second interval and after the first couple of rounds, time stands still and I'm in the zone. It's like being in some sort of altered reality with distorted sound.. Only the flash of the muzzle and tunnel vision to the target. The action sings like an Offenhauser at 18k with brass clinking off the concrete and bouncing off my cap and the paper quivering from the hits . I'll go through the entire stack of magazines while in some sort of wicked rapture and suddenly it's over. I'll stand there for a minute or so immersed in the altered state and time will once again sync in my brain.. I could go on for paragraphs... Ron

A fabulous trigger and the overall balance of the 1911 just make them such a pleasure to shoot :thumb:

Shortly after I got out of the USN after buying a Security 6 and a 629 in 1982 an electroless nickel MkIV Series 70 was my first autopistol. A P7PSP was my second. I still have a PSP and currently have 5 1911s. I grew up watching The Battle Of The Bulge, The Sands Of Iwo Jima etc, I just figured a 1911 is what an autopistol looks like.

No other handgun is as sexy as a 1911. Period.

For me it's simply because I shoot it better (faster and more accurately) than any other handgun.

Well, that could be my other reason for loving the 1911...but I'm still going with the 'cool kids' answer for my number one. :)

The first centerfire handgun that I ever shot.(6yrs old)

Went with my Dad to the local gravel quarry and shot his Remington Rand/Essex Arms 1911.

    I fell in love.

Then, when I joined the Army National Guard and was a Combat Support Company armorer,I really got to love those suckers.
In 1982,I went on active duty and went into armor(19e30)and my sidearm was,you guessed it,a 1911.

Been around them now for 48 yrs.Ain't giving them up anytime soon.
