2019 Staccato P Questions

1507 Views 32 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Singlestack
I’m new to Staccato’s and I have typically always run Glock and M&P’s.
Most of my polymer pistols are modified but not ported. Most mods include Carver tungsten guiderods, slightly heavier spring, and JG or Apex triggers.

I recently purchased a like new 2019 Staccato P 4.15 barrel gun.

What can I expect in terms of shooting and recoil impulse. I hear they are soft shooting but are that much softer than modified polymer guns?

Hoping to shoot it soon and decide whether to keep it or get a newer 2020 model and port it or go XC.

Sorry for the longer first post. I’m new here but can be found mostly on SnipersHide Forums or M4Carbine under the same screen name. Let me know any recommendations for this pistol and what to expect

It’s hard to assess recoil impulses as they affect us all differently. I have a 4.15” P and find it shoots soft enough. I have one with a c2 grip and tool less guide rod, and one with stock grip and recoil master. They shoot about the same to me and I don’t feel a difference between the two. I also have an XC and obviously that shoots much softer. But coming from polymer guns, I suspect you’ll enjoy shooting it a lot

I've had the gambit of striker fired hotrods, among the best being a Ported Floyds Custom Shop M&P, and a Roland Special. I prefer a stock 4.4" P over any of them. I shoot the plate rack faster and the B8's tighter with the Staccato.

Cant help you with the comparison but I can certainly compliment your choice. Very nice set up you bought. I have a 4.4 with that same texture grip module. Its fantastic.

Looking forward to your shooting perspective.

I have a 2019 P and it is a good bit heavier out front than my Glocks (17's and 19's) which results in improved recoil management. The only mods I have done are switching the Recoil Master for a Dawson tool-less guide rod and replacing the sear and disconnector with Harrison parts. This resulted in a nice clean 4 lb trigger. I couldn't use John's hammer because it didn't play nice with the grip safety. I also had to fit the thumb safety to the new sear. I probably would have been fine with the OEM parts, but I really like John's ignition sets.

It's a huge improvement from 95% of all striker-fired pistols. Shoot it for a month, then see if you really want to change it. I put a red dot on mine and I'm calling it good!

Hey, the 4.15 is one of the best sti gats, period. I’ve shot some of my tightest groups with my 4.15. Coming from a dude that has a variety of nice 2011s, the 4.15 is one of my favorites. It’s amazingly soft shooting for the size. But the accuracy is next level. It’s a keeper. Keep it and shoot it

I had (and foolishly sold) a 2018 DS Tactical... the gun that became the 4.15" 2019 Staccato P. It was super soft- and super flat-shooting. So much so that I didn't fine my subsequent Costa Carry Comp to be much of an improvement over the DS. I strongly suggest you hold onto the 2019 P.

FWIW, though a bit off-topic, the best comp I've shot, to date, in terms of making a difference in felt recoil vs. it's non-comp'd equivalent, is my Shadow Systems MR920 w/ the new Shadow Systems comp. Granted, I've not shot an XC or any of the higher end comp'd 2011's, so take it w/ a grain of salt.

@Pusher591 You've got yourself a great pistol there!! I think you're asking a great question and thought I'd share my opinion and experience.

FWIW - I've shot plenty of comped plastic pistols, and still have a decked-out, compensated M&P. All my Staccatos shoot better (and the Wilson too but I can't see the irons any longer). I started with the XC, then the C2, then the '19 P, and I put the ODS grip module on it to make it more C2-like. They are all very different guns, but the '19 P is by far my favorite when I compete in my local matches. The additional weight makes it more controllable than the C2, IMO. That's to say it returns to zero faster for me on follow-up shots, and the dot doesn't dance around as much, making me more confident. The trade-off is that the lighter weight of the C2 is more comfortable to carry, IMHO. Your mileage may vary.

The XC is a whole different animal. Not only is it heavy but it's nose heavy in particular compared to the others. It shoots like a laser and is by far the "softest shooting" of my 2011s. I'm a little slower on the draw with the XC but it hauls a$$ in continuous strings of fire, think bill-drills, even though it feels like it's cycling slower (that 8# recoil spring). The compensator is just amazing! Worlds better than those screw-on comps with tiny-little ports that folks run on plastic pistols. The dot pretty much just stays on the target and you run the trigger. The toughest thing to do is to not muscle the XC just let it do its thing. If I shoot it more in matches it would probably be quicker than my P. The XC is fun to shoot, but it's really a range toy and part-time "race gun" for me. I know there are guys out there that say they carry an XC, but there's no way I'm doing that. It's too big for starters and has a 2# trigger. I tuned mine up to 3.5# to be consistent with the C2 and P.
On porting your '19 P: I'm considering the same option and am on the hunt for another one to send off to Vulcan for porting. I don't want to mess with the one I've got. :)
I'm sure it'll make a difference, the question is how much.

My advice - Do not sell the '19P to buy a new model P. But, if you do decide to sell, I'll take it! :p
Borrow/Beg/Rent an XC before you put down $4200 on one. Make sure it's going to be worth it to you.

Where can I get a Gen 2 grip like the one on your 2019 @JimmyD
@Pusher591
I bought the grip directly from Staccato: Staccato Gen 2 Double Stack ODS Grip. They can sometimes be difficult to source as they are frequently out of stock, but there are some resellers out there that sell them too. The ODS Main Spring Housing is shorter than the full-size grip so order the C2 Parts MSH Kit too. You'll also need a Gen 2 Mag Catch the Gen 1 from the '19 P isn't compatible with the ODS Grip.
Once you have all that, I suggest sending it off to Danny @Elusive for a stipple job, his work is amazing, affordable, and fast!

Keep me posted on your progress!

Great pick up and I will echo others here. Do not sell that thing for a new 4.4 P.
It definitely is personal preference but I like the faster cycling shorter slide on the 4.15 vs. the 4.4. Hence why I liked my c2 more than my 4.4 P. I recently sold my 4.4p and picked up a 2019 p and also put an ODS grip module on it. It’s by far my favorite handgun I own.
The XC is also amazing but it’s heavy AF and rather slow on the draw and handling compares to the others, but once you get going; it’s fast AF

with that said, I prefer my more nimble c2 and 19p

Not to be a **** disturber but I hear a lot of folks talk about the faster cycle time of the 4.15 over the 4.4; how much faster is it and does it really make a difference?

I mean I can get down to low .2 splits with my 5" government that uses a 10# recoil spring. That is a slow ass moving slide but it's still fast enough to get A zone hits in the .21-.23s. Btw I just love how that gun goes ca-chunk caaa-chunk while the dot just bounces like lead ball.

I have never shot a 4.15 but for all you that have a 4.4, don't get down on it. They are bad ass guns. Ring em out💪💪

Your 19P is 😍😍😍 That grip is nice and are you running the original lo-pro Magwell with that base pad? I currently have an RMR on mine but wanna swap to a 509T or EPS MRS, can you send me a link to that plate you are using on yours.

Thank you sir. The grip is stippled by Payne Customs and the magwell is one of the replicas of the old slim tactical. You can get them at Darkside Precision and they fit all of the new Dawson Basepads and 10-8 basepads.
The optic plate is the standard Dawson DPO 509t plate.

Was hoping to snag one but OOS as of 18FEB23.

You can get them direct from Dawson… in stock.

you will also need to get a shorter front sight. The one that comes on the 19p DUO is too tall. You’ll need a front sight with a height of .285.

I haven’t shot the 4.15 P but wish Staccato made all of them with a frame that was flush fit to the slide like it had. Wish my 4.4 P was the same. Same look as the XC. Looks hot.
