I love it when a plan comes together, I was up and at my desk at 5 am this morning so I could make my 3:00 PM ranger reservation at Scottsdale Gun Club.

I finally got to shoot my GI Guncrafter and boy it did not disappoint, with it's full size frame and 5" barrel I could shoot the stinger off of a bee at 50 ft and it's beautiful to boot. After a dozen mags I rolled the target back to 50 ft and really tested her

Over 18 months ago I bought this Sentinel Compact, it was a fully spec build by me from Wilson Combat and I'm glad I did as they stopped their 38 Super offerings. I wish I had ordered an alloy frame as this little things is like a brick, heavy and solid and I've been shooting it more, still haven't cleared 1,000 rounds but I'm getting close. Today I ran some SD loads for the first time and it was flawless and I even ran some mixed magazines (Buffalo Bore and Sig Elite) without any issues running both double, triple and magazine dumps.

It really liked these BB 124+P's but it was snappy as hell to shoot and damn accurate enough at 25 ft to stake my life on it.

I'll tell you the single best value 38 super in the world is the DW Guardian, I carry this a lot. It's super light, has great carry capacity running 10+1's with a Wilson 10 round Magazine, I love the 3-dot sight system and at less than $1,300, COME ON !!

I ended the day with what I call "real life" drills. Safety on, safety comes off, you take a defensive position and fire, re-set and repeat. It's easy to be accurate just standing there shooting away but add the thumb safety coming off as you crouch and acquire the target is a challenge (at least for me). This was at 40 ft, stick with it to the end, there's a couple that are low but I bet a gut shot with that 38 super +P would work as well as a chest shot.

I'm loving my Guncrafter 38 Super. They also fit a 9mm barrel. Does Scottsdale Gun Club allow work out of the holster?

If you spend $25 to get certified with an instructor, yes they do. They want to make sure you are proficient and not some yahoo that has owned a gun for 3 days and you are drawing appendix style on their range.

I'm going to do a GTG there on a Friday afternoon and get some of us locals together and reserve a half-dozen lanes. We can have lunch afterwards next door at KO's.

Great collection and beautiful supers...I have an STI DVC in 38 super and a Les Baer 38. For some reason I want an officer size model, the WC looks sweet.

Don't take this wrong, but why are you crouching?

My only GI 1911 is a 38 super. It shoots great and the accuracy surprised me. View attachment 567069
That was my first .38 sup. I bought it to see what that caliber was all about.
I then sold it to a friend so he could do the same. He just upgraded the sights and shoots the sh*t out of it.
