Pics of my 3 screw 44 mag Super Blackhawk. Had John Gallagher cut from 7.5 to 5.5", reforge the square trigger gaurd round, install oversized base pin.

Built this for the woods, simple working mans 44.

Yep, those dragoon trigger gaurd will knock hide off your knuckle with heavy loads, and the 7.5" is just too cumbersome for the woods. I never understood why 7.5 was that factory "standard".
Next project is this 63 44 mag flat top. Gonna keep it simple, cut to 4-5/8 and factory style refinish.

I do like the 4 5/8” SBH although I usually fire .44 Specials through mine.

The 7 1/2” may not be very handy for belt carry but scoped and carried in a chest holster it makes a good woods gun.

I have a Hamilton Bowen Super Blackhawk that has been cut to 4". The short barrel plus the Dragoon trigger guard make it less than pleasant to shoot, so I handload a load specifically for that gun that has 1 grain less powder than my regular 44Mag load.
