has anyone built a 80% kit on 1911 addicts?

I’d like to build a 9mm 4.25 barrel Commander, I’m thinking about a kit for 1911 builder

Tagging the tread as I’m strongly considering an 80% build too. I’m leaning towards an inexpensive kit ($625) from Urban Survival Arms that also includes the decking and rail cutting jigs for my first go around learning build, then following it with a higher end kit from 1911 Builders for a second.

I have thought about that, but i have a mill and plan to decking and Reilly’s cutting on it so i only need a jig to hold it in the mill vice

1911 builders has a mill jig which is part of why I’m looking at there kits
I have not found any other mill jigs out there

Excellent! I’ll be following your posts. As I don’t have a mill, I’m gonna go ahead with the plan I mentioned above and do it “the old fashioned way” and dream of the day I can figure out how to get a mini mill without upsetting my marital bliss....;)

I pulled the trigger on this kit Sunday. Not a shiny stainless kit, but should be great for a learning project. Included all gun parts, a magazine and the two jigs for decking and rail cutting. The jigs alone retail for a bit over $300, so I figure I can’t go wrong with all the parts for a basic shooter at about $325. Anxiously awaiting arrival :D

So I got some to time the other night and I started my project

1st I made sure my advice was perfectly straight which was a bit of a long task being my last project I removed it and had to start out from scratch

And then I want to work on the frame
For the milling jig new Measure from you the hole for the slide stop to the top of the deck on your goal is to be between .348 and .343

I found the calipers you had to wiggle them back-and-forth up-and-down left and right finding the smallest number to make sure you got your measurement correct it took some finesse to get a correct reading

So I try my multi anvil micrometer with the pin anvil which dropped right in the hole and was much easier to get exact read

Once I had my numbers and did my math I have found I had to remove 18 thousands
Then it was time to go in the jig
Then it was time to go in the jig

Then measure from the top of the jig to the top of the frame deck so you know what you’re starting height is
