On something like the Staccato double stack guns, is all that is required to go from 9mm to 38 super a barrel change?

Barrel change, ejector and extractor tuning and recoil spring change. You might be able to get by without the tuning but if you want it running 100% you should. A good gunsmith can get it working right for both calibers.

If your running Gen 1 mags you’ll need to remove the spacer in the back of the mag and use a 38 Super follower. If your using the newer Gen 2 mags then no mods necessary.

STI Did a 9mm conversion barrel for my EDGE. No additional springs, extractor , magazines or anything else. Runs like a champ. Just a barrel swap.
Staccato C is different though possibly because of single stack?

The recoil master on the STI’s is a much more robust system than a standard spring set up. It can handle a wide array of load power factors. On a standard gun you would need to re-spring.

So will STI do a 38 super barrel?

I just asked STI this question.
    Here is their response:
"Unfortunately that falls under our custom shop due to high demand on production and understaffing. In the hopes of reopening in the near future we ask that you visit website for updates at http://stiguns.com

    Kind regards,
    Hunter"

That is correct. STI’s custom shop is closed for a while. They are concentrating on putting higher quality guns out and are trying to achieve a production goal.

The custom shop guys and some of the top warranty smith’s have been put on the production line.

It’s not easy finding good smiths and it is not a short training time so expect the custom shop to be closed in the near fiture.

    Well,
Given the outstanding quality of the recent production Tactical 4.15 I just bought this is probably a good thing ;)

I have a STI Hawk that I had a Sig 38 Superb barrel fit to.
Installed a 15# recoil spring and it runs 100%. Almost boring.
    No other changes made. Unbelievable!
This 2011 thing is going to get out of control.

I’ve seen those 38 Super Sig barrels listed for like $50, very tempting to order 3-4 and give this a try...

DWE, you need to send that grip off to Jason at Extreme Shooters to have either the Costa or DVC texture applied to it in addition to the other magic’s he works on STI grips. It’s a night and day difference for the better!

Just a side note about the Hawk.
Being a 1911 guy for 30 years, and having gone down the double stack road with both the
original Para Ordnance, and Para USA... (still have them)
I was more then skeptical about trying out an STI.

When my Hawk came up on the board I had no intention of getting it, however
I kept coming back to it. It finally came down to a point where I figured If I didn’t like it
I could get most of my investment back, so I made an offer and bought it.
Then it just sat about 6 months. Then I got the 38 Super barrel and had it fit to the gun.
When I picked it up I went straight to the range.
I didn’t expect it to run because I never even shot it with the stock barrel.
Man was I surprised. The Hawk ate everything in 38Super as well 9mm.
And dead nuts accurate too. Anyway now I’m thinking I’m in trouble!
Already ordered a Nighthawk Double stack. I think I’m hooked.

Yes, they’re just as addictive as 1911’s and in my opinion more practical.

I’ll make you a deal, get your grip worked over by Extreme. If you don’t like it I’ll swap it out with one of my stock grips and cover the difference. I’m that confident that you’ll like it.
