Back in 2001 I became enamored with engraved Colt 1911’s. So much so my wife tried to satisfy the urges with a set of engraved handcuffs, no jokes. I spent about a year looking for that special Colt that could be scratched up. In 2002 I stumbled upon a pair of series 70 Colts, one was in terrible shape. I bought both thinking one or a combination of both would be my dream pistol. I had a local Smith/Cop friend do some work on the Colt and then off to Granbury Texas to be scratched up by Bob Shade. All of this took another year so early 2004 I had my dream pistol. I’ve carried it some and even qualified with it a few times during my LEO career. Mostly it sits in the safe with the occasional trip to the range, my middle grandson has claimed it already. Several years later I stumbled on the Ivory grips, they were aged enough that I felt they complimented the old scratched up Colt. In 2010 I had Bob scratch up a old S&W 640, it’s been carried a lot more than the Colt and is a favorite of my wives. I have more than my fair share of guns in the safes, some that are twice the gun either of these are but these two scratched up pistols always bring a smile to my face.

I couldn't own those, but I can certainly admire from afar. Nice brace of pistols Sir. :)

Love ‘em! Congrats! I think it’s especially nice that you have carried and formally qualified with that 1911.

Very nice on the Colts. I was curious how your wives decide who gets to carry the 640 each day.;)

    Exceptional pair!

From experience- if you carry/qualify with an engraved 1911 (especially nowadays with plastic guns ruling the roost), you'd better be sharp with it.
Initial reaction from most of your fellow shooters is usually skeptical.
A real good showing from the line puts your engraved gun (and you) in an entirely new light.

    :)

It’s a shooter and like most shooters it makes the person running it look good.

I would have thought that posing/worrying what others think would be beneath most here.
