I call this one my "Poor Man's Bill Wilson Carry" with Sarge's grips. These cuts are functional with the FLGR.

And this Kobra Carry that I sent the slide back to EB for the cuts (Sarge grips being made). These cuts are cosmetic since the KC has GI Rod & Plug.

They look good! I'm coming around to it. :thumb:

By the way, I'm not sure I follow you when you said they're functional with the full-length guide rod, and cometic with the GI setup.

With the FLGR you cannot push on the reverse, open recoil plug to see the chamber so that is what I consider functional to use carry cuts for press checks (same as front serrations on most 1911's, but I think cooler looking).

With the GI setup you CAN just press on the recoil plug to see the chamber and carry cuts are really not needed so that is why I consider them cosmetic, but.......they can be used as well if wanted.

Ah, I see. I didn't realize the cuts were deep enough to give that much purchase for racking the slide. Good to know! I use the rear serrations for that myself anyways. It does look pretty neat, though. :thumb:

The cuts are really not deep enough to actually rack the slide.
They are deep enough to move the slide back 1/4 inch or so to see if there is a round in the chamber or not.

Here is a video of various ways to "Press Check".

I see. I'd like to see a 1911 with these cuts in person.

Although I appreciate the thoughtfulness of providing a link, I keep my hands away from the muzzle when I can! :thumb:

Very nice! I was wondering about milling the front of the slide... I've got a couple just begging to lose those front serrations.

    Thanks!
In both cases here there were no front serrations on these guns. For a gun that has front serrations you may not be able to do the carry cuts depending on how much room the serrations take up. You wouldn't want to go back any further than the dust cover front edge corner for the bottom of the carry cut and if the serrations are further back than that, it would be a no go for me as I don't think it would look right.

Joe sent his TRP to SACS and they removed them. Came out pretty damn sweet IMHO.

Very nice! You've got a larger bevel on yours than mine. I like it!
    Naked slide looks great too!

I have been thinking about sending my old EB KC back for some of these as well as a 10-8 sight set up.
Maybe even try the GEN III shake and bake.

I haven't shot it in quite some time and have been thinking about bringing it back into my CCW rotation. The last time I sent it back,I had the slide flattened and serrated and a solid long trigger put on.It has a slightly "plum"coloring to the slide and it's a 3 digit sn# piece that I bought used.

    It's 1 of 2 Commander sized 1911's that I own.
There is something about a EB that is as unique as a Les Baer product.
    Especially the older ones.
