...After doing considerable research, plus a 1911 forum member who applies DLC coatings verified the fact, DLC does NOT make a black finish. The closest is a dark gray.

Technically correct, but the gray is so dark that for all intents and purposes it's black.

Depends on purpose. Nitride is superb for abrasion resistance; DLC is, too. Nitride is better than DLC at corrosion resistance. DLC is far easier to remove and redo, and better therefor if the gun's going to be modified. If the gun's in its final configuration and you want the metal to be as bullet proof as possible, nitride wins.

Big fan of both.
