Looking for an approx. manufacture date for my Springfield Mil-Spec 1911-A1. The slide on this one has the vertical serrations instead of the slanted ones. SN#: WW63XXX

What you got was the G.I. version not a mil-spec. They quite making them a few years ago. Had Lou build mine. They sold new for 440 to 500. The stainless version was $500-$550.

Here is the mil-spec. Lowered ejection port, better finish etc. Don't get me wrong I love the G.I. versions. Most all of the G.I. versions were made in Brazil but the few made in Il. the last year or two they made them. Notice the slanted serrations on the mil-spec.

Didn’t the GI have the lanyard loop?

Not sure. Mine didn't and a couple of others I came close to getting didn't.

Only way to date it is call Springfield and give them serial number

The “WW” prefix on the serial number also denotes the “GI” model compared to a Standard or Mil-spec model with “NM” or “N” serial numbers.

Give Springfield a call. They can tell you the year and month it left to be sold.

Thanks guys, I'll give them a call Monday and see what they can tell me. I took the Springfield apart and cleaned it real good. The gun was bone dry and doesn't look like it was hardly shot at all! There is virtually no wear on the slide or frame rails or handling marks on the outside. Very happy with this one! I know some don't like the low profile combat sights but, I for one do and my eyes can still pick them up pretty quick. I think this one will be passed down to my boy :)!

Mine has one. Look real close in the first pic and you can just see it poking out on the bottom.

Check under the right grip panel, both my SA GI and Champion have the date stamped near the grip screw hole. IMG_5718.JPG

Or was that date just when the frame was made?

Yep, GI model. Vertical serrations, no lowered or flared ejection port. Great base to build from, as per LK, outstanding buddy.

Just got off the phone with Springfield Armory and they were excellent to speak with! Looks like my particular GI issue was also made in 2005 and imported from the Imbel plant in Brazil. Might turn this one into a build platform but, not sure yet.
