I’ve deliberated over this one for a while and decided to pass this rare piece of 1911 history to another owner. I bought this earlier this year and posted about it here:

    https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/swenson-colt-commander.47079/

This gun was customized by Armand Swenson in the early 80’s and has nearly all of his signature features. Squared Trigger, S&W sights, Ambi-Safety, Barrel Tensioner, etc... The gun was originally all hard chromed, per the paperwork and the owner sent it out for night sights and had the slide finished in a ceramic black. I enjoy the two tone look but would probably end up having it changed back as time and money allow.

I’ve fired approx 200 through the gun personally. Very stout as you’d expect from a 45 Commander. No issues with FMJ ammo but the heavy spring didn’t like my light 185gr JSWC. Lots of guns don’t.

Best of all this gun comes with several hard chromed magazines and TWO Milt Sparks RH holsters. The holsters are great and will fit any Commander but they're specifically made to fit the squares trigger.

I’ve come to realize that I’m a full-size guy and anything in Cmdr size I really prefer in 9mm. I’ve owned two Swenson guns and am proud to have had the opportunity to call them my own and shoot, carry, and fondle them. Time for someone else to have a turn.

Price is a hard thing nail down on pieces like this but I’ll start it at $3750 shipped. The most important thing to me is that it goes to a good owner who will appreciate and shoot it.

I’m very willing to hear lower offers or even partial trades. (I’m missing a full size 9mm, 357 Lever action, free/air pistol in my collection ATM!!)

I will ship same day air. Insurance is on the buyer if they want it. Must accept from an individual.

I figure the price is about what other mid range customs are minus what it would cost to hard chrome the slide. Given the extras, holsters, and paperwork I think I’m in the right ballpark. Selling to fund a custom and not in any rush. I’ll post more pictures later today but I’m in a deer blind at the moment.

    Nothing seen.

RS: Gorgeous piece..Thanks for posting. A true craftsman and I wish I could get my guns
accuruzed for 134!!!!. Since you have Swenson's build sheet with serial number , there is no question the gun is righteous. But is his name stamped inside the slide like Clark Did?
I have seen swensons with his name under the derail number. But since he sold the safeties with his name, some sellers try to sell a gun as a "swenson" since it has his safety onit!!

I have not taken the gun apart yet. And I covered it up in every photo, but there is an "A" and an "S" stamped on each side of the trigger guard. But, you're right, the paperwork seals it. I haven't seen many with all this paperwork. I'll take apart later and snap a picture of anything fun I find.

Mine was built in '76, hard chrome for the frame and slide was $75.

The gun was $276, the work was almost double that at $526!
