Barranti Leather Summer Classic and S&W N-Frames

I’m certain I’ve posted about this before: the astounding ability that a Barranti Summer Classic IWB holster imparts, at least to me, to pack guns that some might deem difficult to carry, much less to conceal.

To whit, this 5-inch barreled S&W 27-2. I’ve been carrying its 4- and 3-1/2-inch barreled cousins in their respective Summer Classics for a while now. I’ve had the proper holster for the 5-incher but just didn’t use it that much.

Until recently.

I must have been doing some extra reading on Skeeter Skelton and his use of this same gun or something haha…when I carry these days, I’ve been keeping it to this gun and holster combo and the pictured mix of Barranti and Sparks ammunition carriers. I’m amazed at how well this large gun rides this way. Partnered with a good gunbelt (mine is from A&G Gunleather), I’m living the Barranti promise of “comfortable peace of mind.”

I concede that N-Frames aren’t for everyone, nor is IWB carry. There are LOTS of good handgun and carry choices out there. Of late, I‘ve been doing some of my best personal shooting with my Model 27s. It’s nice to be able to bring them along for the day! :)

These photos were taken a few days ago at the start of this dedicated journey. The holster is now showing a little wear to it. I’ll post more pics as the wear continues.

I’ve been considering a Barranti IWB holster for my 629 Mountain Gun. This may have pushed me over the edge. Nice looking combo!

Hey, thank you! I should have kept my 625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP…but…my first Barranti Summer Classic was for that gun. This one had the optional neoprene band to help prevent shirt un-tucking…I wound up not preferring that option and didn’t add that to later orders.

I’d say go for it!

That looks good, his Holsters are top notch. I found a Alfonso IWB/OWB for my S&W 4"Bbl. 357mag. I'll take some pictures of it and post them, it's an interesting design. That looks great @WhoIsJohnGalt?

Big time N frame lover--and snub nose model 15-2 in 38 is a nice fast handling carry! Got any N frames for sale? We did business before Brother.

Hey, good to see you - I’m holding on to my N-frames haha…

Simply Rugged makes this style speed loader pouch. I've always used ones in a vertical orientation. I'll be trying one of these out, very soon. You have inspired me to carry a revolver on more than just the rare occasion.

I really like the look of that speedloader pouch @fatbaldguy - I’ve got to check that out!

I had the five-inch and four-inch 27s at the range today along with a K-22 - I love warming-up with some .22LR before and during (and sometimes after) sessions with the centerfire revolvers.

The more I shoot revolvers, the more I find myself carrying them.
Just ordered a couple of those Simply Rugged speedloader pouches! 3-4 week estimated turnaround.

I ordered two just before I posted that photo. Was gonna give a short review of them after trying them out for a bit.

This is Skeeter!!! I named him after my favorite(that's hard. Charlie Askins Jr. is my favorite shooter and writer and the most underrated of The 20th Century. Still, Skeeter told better stories) gunwriter. As far as the "one gun" bit, are you specifically referring to the Dobe Grant story when Skeeter asks him about what he'd do if he could only have one gun? I hate to say it, but Dobe was right. There is no replacement for the .22 rifle.

I am a huge, huge fan and my Skeeter books are prized possessions. @WhoIsJohnGalt? can you help me get one of those hats?!?! Seriously, I want one of those hats in a bad kind of way. Where can a guy find one?

@Merton love it and re: the hats, absolutely - that came from Barranti Leather. Link below to their Apparel section. Looks like they only have Skeeter hats available at this time (other than the Keith and Taffin hats they normally carry).

I had no idea! Thank you!

Of all the guys with actual bona fides.......they went with Taffin??? He spins a good yarn and seems like my type of family man, but when a guy who sells his opinion regularly tells people that they are fools for buying guns that they haven't "seen, held or smelled"(I believe that's his absurd quote that negates his entire writing career) in person, it gets really old. He has said a few things to me personally that are just beyond the pale.

Fortunately for them, Keith and Skeeter weren't around to feel my wrath on the internet. Ha!

I'm honestly surprised that I'd never heard of this. Now to order a Skeeter hat! Thanks again!

@WhoIsJohnGalt? Barranti Leather...do you use it because it is easier to acquire, or because it works that much better than other makers versions?

I carry my 625 Mountain Gun in a Barranti summer classic as well. I'm not a big dude but it carries and conceals great. I can't recommend Barranti enough for all your sixgun carry needs.

Excuse me and I have no intention of stepping on @WhoIsJohnGalt? toes. He is a holster aficionado, truly and will have a much better answer than I. Still, I can add my perspective as well.

Doc Barranti is about as respected of a holster maker as there is. His in stock products are easy to acquire, obviously, but ordered stuff will take time and the work that goes into it is spectacular.

When I think of leather that is easy to acquire, relatively inexpensive and still in the realm of "good stuff", I think of Simply Rugged. I believe that Barranti is "better" and that more goes into the individual pieces, but I could be completely wrong about that.

If you can find any interviews with Doc, I believe that he will sell himself by simply presenting his approach. I believe Rob Leahy(Simply Rugged) does a good job of the same and I have no intention of knocking their products. They are wonderful. I love my Milt Sparks holsters, but my Del Fatti stuff is "more" than utilitarian and I believe that it is much the same with Barranti.

Hey, I do not disagree at all with what @Merton and @vermilionbird stated above, @fatbaldguy . I came to know about Doc Barranti via the social media posts of Sheriff Jim Wilson. The first product of Doc’s I bought wasn’t actually a holster, but his Life Changer “coin purse,” followed by one of his Swift Cover concealment vests. Finally, I tried a Summer Classic IWB for a 4-inch N-frame and found it to be the absolute best IWB solution for a revolver for me.

I simply cannot recommend Barranti highly enough. I remain a huge Milt Sparks fan, as well, and some of their solutions are the best to me for specific things (like those speedstrip carriers as well as IWB holsters and magazine pouches for 1911s, etc.)

I’ve come realize that, for my needs, there’s no one leather-maker that “does it all” for me - but I’m glad to have some many great options to pick and choose from.
