Make sure we all get this out to the gun community, another one that could possibly be out of business shortly. Will make it a point to send them an email also! Thanks for sharing this tid bit.

Hey guys let's see what's going on with this before we get all bent out of shape. I know where I'm from when a police department has a ton of confiscated guns, there's a process they go through. First, can the gun be returned to its owner? If it can't, it's kept in the evidence Locker until such time as an attempt to sell it can be made. This is usually done once in abundance of weapons are being held. Notification to the public is made and an auction is held. Once this is done, any weapons that couldn't be returned to an owner, or sold to the public, are destroyed. It's for no other reason then creating space In an Evidence Locker.

We do have a local Dem here that gets an NRA B+ rating. Not sure about the candidates on that list, but if they are the normal liberal ass-hat Dems of the leftist coast of our country then a Benchmade boycott should be in order.

The anti 2A Oregon City police chief asked them to do it and they agreed. In the past they have been destroyed at a recycling plant in the area.

There is no law that states the guns must be destroyed, it is up to the discretion of the chief as to the disposition of seized firearms.

Someone wanted to make some political points posting this. BM has no compunction destroying the guns, seems they were happy to oblige. They could have just as easily explained that they weren't comfortable with the exercise and had knives to make.

This is Oregon after all, Oregon City is just south of the Portland Metro area, I'm sure within that community the kudos for these entities is worth the back-lash.

At best, Benchmade was a bunch of tools for doing it no matter what the circumstances. They should have said no. At worse, they are liberal suck asses and virtue signaling and will pay dearly for going down the ****’s Sporting Goods route. It looks like they are the new ****’s.

I am sure the rape whistle, pee yourself, pound me too crowd will line up and buy the Benchmade product.

....Just out....Next new Benchmade model will be called "The Boot Licker". It will be a boot knife modified to be worn with high heels.

Seriously, except for some seriously good Asian restaurants Portland is becoming a black hole.....Oh...and the airport is a breeze to get through.....other then that it's a left wing cesspool.

Below is an article where PD and Benchmade try to explain/take cover:

"In some areas of the country, weapons used in crimes that are being held by police as evidence or gunsturned in by the public, can be sold at auction to raise money for equipment and special projects. According to Oregon City PD, they are not allowed to sell firearms. So it appears that with or without help from Benchmade, these guns were destined for destruction.

The Oregon City Police Department posted a statement a few hours ago on Facebook:

    Good evening,

The We understand some of our followers are upset with Benchmade knives because of a recent post we put out. The post did not give everyone the full story on why the gunswere required to be destroyed.

We receive guns that are turned in from community members that they no longer want the guns and want them destroyed. We also have guns that are evidence and when a case is adjudicated the guns are ordered by the court to be destroyed. These guns were required to be destroyed. We reached out to Benchmade to do us a favor at our request.

Benchmade is a strong supporter of law enforcement and the Oregon City community. We were present when the guns were cut and we took them for final destruction. We apologize for not informing everyone on the initial post.

Benchmade is an excellent company and we urge everyone that had said they no longer support Benchmade to reconsider once they have all the information. Again, we apologize for not informing everyone with our recent post.

Respectfully, Chief Jim Band and Mayor Dan Holladay

We reached out to Benchmade’s Media Relations late last night, and to their credit, in the middle of what has to be a virtual sh*t storm for them, I received a statement regarding the event:

BENCHMADE HELPS PD DESTROY GUNS: OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Benchmade is aware of the recent post from our local Oregon City Police Department.

We apologize for the confusion and concern that this post created. These were firearmsthat the Oregon City Police Department had to destroy in alignment with their policies. Oregon City Police requested the use of specialty equipment within the Benchmadefacility to follow these requirements, and as a supporting partner of our local police force, we obliged the request.

Benchmade is a proud and unwavering supporter of both law enforcement and Second Amendment rights. These are commitments that we do not take lightly and will continue to support well into the future.

When asked for clarity from Oregon City Police Department, Chief Jim Band made the following statement: “When property is to be destroyed, it is the policy of the Oregon City Police Department to destroy property, including firearms, in accordance to our procedures and ORS. The Oregon City Police Department does not sell firearms.”

There’s no question that Benchmade made a poor business decision: in the current climate, gun owners are on high alert for any company or organization that is not in favor of individual liberties. But in this case, it appears that a local company was just helping out their town with a process that was already predetermined to occur anyway. I don’t get the feeling that this was part of some sort of anti-gun propaganda campaign. Do you?

If not, we might want to consider cutting Benchmade a break. The last thing we need to do is spend energy fighting amongst ourselves. Drop your thoughts below."

^^^ Yeah, but they won't service their own Auto knives for common citizens, unless the knife goes back through a dealer.

    Meh... Screw 'em.

There are better options out there, than MB.

So lame....OCPD is just hiding behind their own policy....change the policy......DOH!

If something has to be destroyed take the weapons to a metal re-cycler.....that's what they do....re-cycle metal....who'da thunk it?.....and what did they do with the metal parts after Benchmade cut them up....took them to a a metal re-cycler?...DOH!
