    What are you wanting the gun for? Range? Carry? Both? What price point are you looking at? What caliber? etc...

    Brand wise would depend on your price point to be honest...

    Well, if there were an obvious "best" 1911, that's what we would all have!

    Lots of good options in different price ranges. Just remember that everything's a compromise.

    The Buyer's Guide is a good resource. An STI should serve well as a 9mm for IDPA

    Ive found a lot of value and quality in Springfield.... Been looking hard at STI lately as well but i couldnt be happier with my Springers

    The best 45, is the one that doesn't cost you anything, goes bang every time and is in your hand when you need it :wink:

    This is one of those questions that depends on so many other factors it for competition shooting, self defense, collecting etc. I think it narrows down to your needs and likes nothing more. However ! It is always a plus if the gun works reliably and look healthy.
