Does any one here on the forum lament the time when manufactures and pistol builders did not feel the need to create bill boards on the side of their "guns" ? I certainly do. Having markings and letterings 3/8" to 1/2" high on a slide and then the gauche , in your face insignias, lazer or roll stamped into the pistol ..... I hate it. I have bought trucks specifically because they did not have or would remove the ugly garish decals on it. Examples .4x4, off road, a jeep with a decal of "MUD" on the side of it.
They don't do this with rifles and very little with revolver barrels. Why the need with pistols especially with 1911s? Cause they can? They never used to. They never needed to back then cause their product spoke for itself? I really hate that it is very hard to find a blank slide for a 1911 when you are building a pistol. Just me??
Please, manufactures, offer you products without the stamps and decals. We would like to own them and many would be happy to display the markings. But some may believe that the many parts from different mfgs that went into their build make their pistol "their own" and would not like to have to display others markings.

I have to agree with you ,imho the lack of manufacturing advertising on a pistol in any form adds to the clean and simple beauty of a 1911.

I agree. One more reason to love Dan Wesson: their minimal markings.

I just experienced this yesterday. Went to a local shop to check on the used 1911 selection. Found a pretty decent deal on a Springfield TRP (but left it there) and then the counter guy showed me a Doublestar PHD.

Doublestar is in Winchester Ky. I'm from Ky. and have lived in the state all of my life. My first AR15 was a Doublestar. But I have to say that the PHD is one of the most unappealing 1911's I have ever seen!! Wow the slide rollmarks are HUGE. Really turned me off from the pistol.

I like it when they're kept to a minimum. I dont like to be a walking billboard and I don't want my gun to be one either.

Yes, when the marketing dept. has input in addition to the legal dept.

Ha ha, I had one of those Smith Gunsite pistols. I thought I could live with the billboard because it was so light, but I couldn't...

I just looked at a Nighthawk and was turned off by the giant GRP marking.

My GI NN CCO is naked, and suits my taste much better!

A 1911 should speak it's form, fit, and function. Not the billboard!

I’ve only got one pistol with a billboard, and she is a doozy!

I really dislike the damn "Caution this gun may fire without a magazine" crap. And as far as the rest, I am with WhoIsJohnGault, DW does a nice job on their guns. Sometimes, less is more. You want me to advertise for your company, send me a hat, I will wear that some.

My preference would be ZERO billboard. There is a VERY nice custom maker we all know & "TO ME" ruins his beautiful builds with a BILLBOARD. (rhymes with Rabbit)

@nmbuzz, as a rule I don't like logos on slides but how can you not like the Classic Colt Logo.

Hmmm.... somehow there isn't much about that pistol that "bothers" me .... much.
Subtle, subdued, stylish, and a bit sexy. Certainly compared to so many others but I believe we could have gotten by with just that very cool rearing horse. THAT would be like a proof stamp!!

Did I mention ALL of my 5 vehicles are solid white.
