Care and feeding for a Baer?

New to the forum here and with a recent acquisition of a Les Baer hemi i was wondering what experiences were with different ammunition with regards to cycling and feeding.

Is there anything I should avoid?

I've been carrying a couple Sig p220s for about 30 years and haven't found anything that won't work in them including cast reloads, almost exclusively 230 grn. with the majority of ammo being Speer Gold dot but I've put pretty much everything through them with no failures (wish I could say that about all of my firearms).

I probably won't be able to get out to the range until next week and give it a spin but I'm eagerly looking forward to this range trip, the last time I got to shoot a Baer was a TR about 25 years ago and immediately fell in love with it but have had to wait to add a Baer to my collection.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Look up some of the threads I've posted about my LB Gunsite model.
ZERO drama with a multitude of ammo: 230 gr FMJ, flat-nosed 185 gr, and a slew of JHP.
I also use mags from Wilson, Chip McCormick, Cobra, Springfield, Colt, etc..

All my Les Baer does is RUN, with a little Wilson Ultima II for lube, and an occasional field strip and cleaning.

It'll probably eat any and everything factory loaded. Baers from the factory are sprung differently than whats usually "reccomended". You'll find threads on that here to get you up to speed. There 45's are generally tight fit. I go against the baer reccomendations. I tear it down, re spring it, check extractor tension, hose it with lube and shoot the tar out of it. With good mags, you probably won't have any issues. I either use tripps or wilson 47's, 500 hd+p.

After a few hundred rounds I do a complete tear down clean and inspect. Clean up the peening and burs here and there, slick a few things up. Re lube and repeat excessively.

Fair warning, baers are addictive, have a soul, and out of spec. Good luck getting a magwell to fit etc. Again, theres threads here for the magwells, sights etc. But it'll probably be one hell of a shooter, best of luck to you.

P.S we all love pictures of the newly acquired blasters

This. I’ve stuck with Les’ advice as well, no disappointments with those I’ve bought both new and used. They all seemed to have a preference for Federal 230gr fmj for putting holes in paper. For social situations I use Federal 230gr HST, it also is accurate and reliable. I use either Wilson or Chip McCormick mags.

Enjoy you’re new blaster!

I have 3 Baers, I've had 8, just run 'em, clean occasionally and run 'em some more. Never worried what I fed it, even sucks up empty cases. There is a reason Les advises on his "break in" procedure, it works. But "break in" means "don't complain until you have 500 rounds through it". The gun will continue to smooth out as you shoot it.

I have others to choose from but if my cheeks are on the line my Baer Custom Carry 45 is always my first choice.
