Carry Rear Sight

I have never carried a 1911 and am thinking about adding a Combat Commander to my CCW at my next qualification. I recently picked up a Combat Commander which had a target rear sight on it and I would think that it sits up way too tall. For those of you who carry 1911s, what rear sight do you prefer which still gives a good sight picture but wont catch a shirt or other clothing when pulling? Lets see your carry guns and what your rear sight looks like.

I think the beaver tail would snag first. These Chens are pretty slick.
I have 10-8's or old school King sight on my 2 carrys

My guns either have Chuck Rogers or John Jardine’s rear sights - haven’t found anything that comes close to those.
$125 plus sights Novak will mill your slide and install a set of low fixed sights.

There are many good options, but my sunken and blended Bomar on my WC Colt Government Model is pretty awesome. I live in some wide open spaces and am more prone to use my carry gun for a long shot at a coyote or other vermin. If I spent my time in a more urban environment I would be much more inclined to use fixed sights and I like Novak's and 10-8. I also like the fixed sight that Alchemy uses as well. The Chen rear sight is appealing, but I have no firsthand experience with it.

I’ve used the Wilson Battlesight with the serrated face and really like them. All of the previous suggestions are great too!

I was looking at this one as well where it sits low and hangs off the back of the rear of the slide. Gives a good hook for another position to rack the slide if necessary.

Right now the gun has an old Millett target sight on it and it sticks up way too high.

For me for carry purposes- something fixed and no snag works. Lots of good options.

The Harrison Retro and 10-8 NM are both nice options if you don’t want to get your slide machined.
GI cut slide- 10-8 or Harrison Retro.

Novak cut slide- 10-8 or Heinie ultra-low mount ledge.

Not a fan of Novak or similar "wedge" styles. I like a vertical ledge that I can use to rack the slide on my belt or shoe. Or table. Or door frame. I know I am in the minority. Don't care.
Lots of great suggestions for rear sights. If you are going to something much lower, you're probably going to have to do something with the front sight as well. Given you have a Millett rear, you might have a Millett dual crimp sight in the front. And that will raise its own issues for changing things out.

I was looking at the Heinie because they use a taller front post sight which is similar in height to the Millett dual crimp that im stuck with

No sights. Go bald.
Oddly enough I really like the Bomar style rear sight.
Wilson Battlesight, 10-8 Precision, Novaks', Warren - all make sights which work great. If you can, find an LGS with various 1911s, ask to handle and compare the sight pictures - find a light source, take a sight picture pointing at the light source - then go by the set which works the best for your eyes. However, bear in mind, you must match the existing dovetail cut with your new sights unless you want some machining time.

If you don't have someone who can machine the dovetails properly, just send the slide alone to Novak and have them do it by picking from their sight options - easiest, most professional results guaranteed.

alternatively, take a file and knock off the corners of your existing sight and carry it for 6 months. files are cheap.

Thats what I use on my carry LW Commander.
I see absolutely no need for all the huge/complicated sights on a carry gun.
