I thought about a shoulder rig. It would require an extra step at stops to throw something over it but that’s not the end of the world. I’m slightly concerned aboutthevreaction I’d get during a traffic stop, not that I ever speed or anything;)
Thats what I do. Im in Alaska so wearing a loose billowy over shirt is easy to pull off all summer long. My shirts are all western shirts with snaps so access is fast if need be.
I got pulled over a couple years ago and the trooper walks up. I have BOTH hands high on the steering wheel and in plain view. Asks me the standard dumba** question...
Do you know why I pulled you over?
I reply... No Sir but I need to inform you that I have a pistol hanging under my left arm in a shoulder rig. He steps back a step, his right hand goes to his pistol (he doesnt draw it).
He says... well hand it here. I unsnap the front of the shirt and expose the pistol and then slowly yard it out & hand it over butt 1st maintaining eye contact the whole time.
I tell him its loaded and ready. He replied... In my world they are all loaded & ready!
He tells me why he pulled me over and such. Goes back to his car and does his stuff. Comes back to my window, hands me my gun, license & reg. and a ticket for 67 in a 55.
I look at the ticket and I say... Heyyy, where is my break as they usually write you for less than you were actually going.
He says... Your brake is down there next to your gas pedal. You obviously know where thats at! Grinned and got back in his cruiser and left lol
Everyone here carries in some form or another so the cops are used to it I guess. I will never get used to it. :ROFLMAO:
That split second in time where I drew the pistol and handed it to him was an uncomfortable situation for me.
I remember thinkin "this is how people get shot, one wrong move..."

I carry OWB 3 o'clock. When I get in my truck, my cover garment and seatbelt are positioned behind the gun leaving it accessible while driving. Although I will sometimes on longer trips put my weapon in the the thingy behind the passenger seat, it comes out and on my hip as I leave the truck. I'm not generally comfortable leaving it in the console or especially mounted somewhere, because I know there will be a time when I will be preoccupied and forget it, which I think is a big no-no.

That seems dumb to me - for the cop to have you unholster your pistol. It drastically increases the chance for one of you to make a mistake, drop it, etc.

As soon as you declared you had one, your odds of engaging in violence basically went to zero from a LEO standpoint. And if the cop drops it, fumbles it, etc... just seems silly. I'm not a cop, but I'd wager "keep your hands on the wheel at all times" would be a better play.

In Ohio, its a felony to handle a firearm in the presence of LEO, so in that situation the cop would be asking me to commit a crime? I've never had a cop ask me to "pull it out" even after disclosure- but it could be a state by state thing I guess?

Anyway, glad it worked out (sort of)!

I didnt like it at all, very uncomfortable.
Different states do things different but also troopers do it differently from trooper to trooper in the same state.
To this day I dont think it was wise to do it that way because for a split second in time my gun was in my fingers and his was in its holster.
Lookin back on it tho I know he could have shot me before I could get the gun turned around and in play even tho he was holstered.

Give this a shot for auto carry.

I did that for awhile. It didnt work out so well for me as I found myself complacent and lazy.
For example I would pull in for fuel and think, Im only gonna be a sec no need to transfer to on body holster etc.
Not the fault of the setup of course that I cant police myself better but at the end of the day you have to deal with who you actually are, not who you think you are so I found myself back to just keeping it on body no matter what.
I have a few complexes I plow that are low income housing full of dope heads and such.
No matter what time of day or night I show up there are people milling around the parking lot, in and out of apts. etc. At least 2 or 3 will come up to the truck wanting a cigarette or selling this that and the other. When I head into that area I pull it from the shoulder rig and park it between my legs on the seat muzzle down and resting against my inner thigh. My plow control sets on top of my right thigh when its not in my hand, 2 inches away from the pistol. Other than that it stays holstered, on body.

I do a number of long, cross country drives per year, typically through CCW friendly states. I’ve really never found a satisfactory way of carrying and concealing a pistol during these trips, especially when I get out at stops.

I‘ve carried in the centre console which is ok from an access standpoint, but is difficult at stops. Typically I just leave it in the console.

I have a pocket carry (Colt Mustang) which is very accessible when I’m out of the car but not terribly easy to draw from in the sitting position. It works, but it’s slow. At least it’s comfortable.

I normally carry in an IWB holster at 4 o’clock which is very uncomfortable when driving and very slow to access. While I have the pistol and it’s well concealed when I’m out of the car at stops, it’s probably the worst when I’m driving.

I've considered a cross draw holster but before the trial and error begins, I thought I’d see what others on here are doing.
I typically carry AIWB but for this scenario I go shoulder holster rig
Looks like miami vice 😂

Light button down shirt in a dark color solves that problem
Short sleeve or long sleeve

an other concern I have concerning this method would be in the event of an accident. I actually bought and installed one of those magnets beside my console but I don't use it for that reason. If I was in an accident, the last thing I would want to be concerned with would be where did the gun go.

Exactly!!! Whats not to love about that.
Easy access while seated is plain as day, comfort is a given especially if you carry a small pistol.
For me the 320 x compact or 365 gets the carry nod these days.
My rig is part of my everyday life. It doubles as my suspenders and I never forget my keys lol
Its not even possible to forget my gun cuz my britches will fall off before I get to the door! :ROFLMAO:

x compact set up...

My buddy used to use one of those magnet mounts and it worked perfect as long as the world was perfect.
One morning a moose ran out and during evasive maneuvers on an icy road he wound up rolling the truck a couple times. Ended up upside down out in the snowbank. He was ok but the gun was nowhere to be found.
Someone showed up with a metal detector and 4000 truck parts and several hours later they finally found it. It was 30 feet from where the truck came to rest. Amazing they found it out in 10 feet of snow.
At the end of the day there is no perfect way just some better than others based on our individual undertakings and how we go about things I suppose.

Its a Galco jack a** harness, the only one I can find 2.75 inches wide where it comes over the shoulders. Critical for long hours and comfort especially with a 1911 which I carried most of my years.
The holster & yolk is by Falco holsters. I went with Falco because they had it made and in my hand in about 4 weeks and they ship Fed Ex for free. Its decent enough stuff in a work role no complaints.
Keybak made the key reel. Oddly enough it was on back order and took longer to get here than any of it.
The suspender parts I rob off of suspenders I buy from Hold Up Suspenders. Another part critical to comfort as they stretch when I move. The leather tie downs do not. I can also wear them with sweats, shorts or anything that may not have belt loops plus I hate wearing a belt anyways.

I carry the larger guns in this one from Swap Rig, I can change the outer skin in 5 min from my 226 (shown) to my1911's, FN9C etc.
Its skinned now for my 365 and all the larger stuff mostly just sees the range these days.

The 2.75” I believe is the one that comes standard with the VHS supposed to be super comfy. I like the modification to use suspender pieces for tie downs. I keep a cuff case and magazines on the off side to help balance out works well for me. The cuff case can be used for a tie down though I normally don’t use it as such. I use the traditional jackass rig but had Miami classics as well I saw Galco offering the kydex rigs now wondered how comfortable they were.

I carry in a OWB belt holster without any problems. About traffic stops, I live in North Carolina and we are required to notify the officer that we have a concealed carry permit. Both times I've been stopped the cops requested that I put the gun up on the dashboard. Quite frankly I don't like this and fail to see why this seems to be a practice. Unholstering your gun on a traffic stops just seems to be a recipe for something to go wrong.

I always carry a Seecamp .380 in my front pocket and something else much more formidable (with extra magazines) either in my door pocket or an overhead cubby. This way something is always easily accessible and I don't have to shift anything around for stops.

I had a Galco holster for it but sent it back. I didnt like how the Galco was made. The only thing holding the holster together on the bottom side is the retention screw (no stitching)
It allowed for a bigger gap to the trigger guard than I liked and if the retention screw loosened or fell out you can almost get your finger past the trigger guard from the muzzle end. A no no for a striker fired pistol. I also ordered a Don Hume for it and same deal, no stitching just the screw. It had all sorts of other issues as well mostly that it was cheap & crappy. NOT the Don Hume of 20 years ago! Sent it back as well.

Here is what I mean. I got the pics off the sites in brown because they show what I mean better than the black.
The Falco is far better built.

Galcos version, I also didnt like how the muzzle sticks out the end. If you notice where the front sight rests and the formed front sight channel you can see that its just begging to be a hang spot and why go with a retention screw in a molded holster with a thumb break? its kind of beyond me.

Falco's version. And with Falco I can choose my thread color and I can choose edge colors as well.
Easy to see its superior built to the Galco and while open ended it covers the entire gun.

My retired trooper friend just ordered one from them. He is having it made for a SIG P229 that he has had forever.
The entire rig is black with dark blue stitching and the edges around the harness, yolk, and holster all dark blue dyed.
Thin Blue Line tribute/theme he is after.
Here is a screenshot of that section of the options form. Not many makers in the US offer this and when they do its hella lot more expensive than this and the lead time is just ridiculous these days. Late in 2020 I ordered one from Desantis or Mitch Rosin I cant remember and was told 12 weeks lead time. I called at 16 weeks and they didnt even have it in the queue to be built yet. Yeah no thanks, cancelled it.

I was impressed enough that Im gonna throw em some more business as they also make them to accommodate many different weapon mounted lights and optic ready as well.

Got my eye on this one for my AXG Classic so equipped.

They make all other styles as well but never even looked at them but you guys can if your interested.
Thats all I got.
