Update on Post #23

I just got done installing this grip. I bought the black anodized version from Shooters Connection.. It came with 1 MBX 9mm 17 round Defender mag, black MSH, replacement fixed beavertail, and mag catch installed. I also ordered an extra mag.

My Geppert X-Line long trigger wasn't a drop in fit. I had to file the Cheely frame where the trigger enters into the trigger guard (top, bottom, and sides of the frame). Luckily, once the trigger was installed, it hid all the ugliness from filing.

The grip did mate up nicely with my C2 frame. I was going to use the supplied beavertail, but trying to get the ambi-safety apart wasn't worth the hassle (you can do this without removing the safety & ignition parts). I may try it at a later time, but it is silver in color, so it doesn't match the anodized frame. And I'm undecided if I want to run this gun without a working beavertail grip safety (although I'm picking-up a Wilson EDC-X9 tomorrow, and it doesn't have one).

I used a gov. length 19 pound mainspring I had in my parts pin, as the C2 has an officers length spring/MSH. I did use the guts from the C2 MSH. I don't know what weight main spring Staccato normally uses?

After everything was reassembled, the trigger pull seemed heavier? I'm not sure it actually was, but I adjusted it to around 4 lbs bending the leaf spring legs.

Even having bigger hands, the new grip felt better and seems a little smaller than the standard C2 grip. But I didn't do any measurements. This is heavier than what the factory grip is.

I plan to shoot it this week.

Here's some pics with the MBX defender mag. Cheely also makes new baseplates for Staccato 16 round mags that fit like the MBX and fills in the frame front strap. But even with my larger hands, my hand doesn't grip this low on the frame. And the MBX mags gives you an extra round (but the mags are $100). The grip and 2 mags with shipping ran around $900, so my $2300 Staccato is now a $3200 poor mans Ares.

Looks awesome. Definitely clean with the MBX mag.

For aesthetic purposes, I’d only rock the Staccato 16rd mag. But to each their own. It looks great! Congrats!
I just added some comparison pics using the C2 grip frame.

Would you be willing to sell your C2 magazine release and internals? I lost mine and need another. Staccato won't sell me internals because the c2 grip I got was from a trade and is not attached to a serialized Staccato.

Thanks,

Bubba

I tried the fixed beaver tail. It does give a higher grip, but it’s not as blended as the Staccato. I’m going to stick with the functioning Staccato.

Smart… I dig functional grip safeties on 1911 / 2011s
Nice job. Really like the look and I'd bet the grip improvement is phenomenal

How much weight do you figure this mod added?

Also do you ever pinch skin when inserting the mag (between the mag baseplate and the grip module)? I have found this to be a problem on my P365XL. Probably depends on hand size but curious if it's even a potential issue for you on this larger grip module.

Finally do you think the Cheely grip will be tolerable carrying against your side?

The plastic C2 grip and MSH don't weigh much at all, so this will add a few ounces.

No pinching. Even with my larger hands, my pinking still doesn't go past the front strap. I'd say I have a 1/4" left of front strap before the bottom when gripping it. My pinky in nowhere near the magazine base plate.

Cheely considers this their perfect carry texture. I don't think they have one that's less textured.

Here's the weight. 32.2 oz. with an empty mag.

As a followup to my question, I went to the Cheely site and they have the weight gain info. It is just a smidge under 2 oz weight gain over the factory polymer grip. Definitely looks like a reasonable trade off to me!

I am now waitlisted at Shooters Connection for whenever the next batch comes in. Out of stock at Cheely too.

BTW that looks like 32.2 oz to me, not 34.

You're right. I'll fix it.
Nice!
damn, want this, looks amazing

only downside for me is.. I could only do the 17 round mbx mags aesthetically and thats a whole lot of $ and mag switching around for a grip
