I've got a little bit more than that in a 1978 nickel myself. I don't feel bad about what I paid. Got mine a few years ago, of course condition is everything.

I paid $750 for my 1977 a little over a year ago, so I would say $878 is in the ball park for being a decent deal. I’d buy it for that.

For me, I don’t care if a gun comes in a box unless it’s a collector piece, and generally, people selling an old Colt with a box expect a premium price.
I paid a grand for a 1976 Colt LW Commander with no box, but it’s in 95+/-% condition.
