I get bored with the standard carry guns so I wanna blend carry with competition
Checkered front strap
Figure out what trigger you want

USPSA, you know this, you're in open with the comp( w/o a red dot). Like we did back in the early days of open LOL

I know that's part of the reason I bought it

You should have a competent 1911 'smith check the firing pin safety parts to verify they're timed correctly to insure the plunger is being lifted completely out of the way of the firing pin as it comes forward.

I was thinking about sending it to Clark custom
It's easy to check. With the slide off take up the pretravel until you are on the sear, the lever should be about .100 above the frame. Now the fun part.....pull the trigger slowly and as soon as the hammer releases block it there, awkward to freeze the trigger and hammer with one hand but you can. Take a punch or something to push the fp in and feel for any hitch passing the block. If you can't pull off the blocking or not sure if you can tell the pin and block are lightly touching marker up the pin and block and pull the trigger a few times. Usually if they are out of time with factory lever it's easy to feel and just looking at the pin and block you'll see doink marks on them. If timing is out get the old n lever, can be a pain to find sometimes but IIRC I got my last 2 from EGW.

Brownell used to carry them but haven't seen them in a long time. If you go to their factory parts the national match is the same part number as the gov't and commander so don't bother.

Here are the doink marks referenced by @Rex.

Not my best photographic efforts but you can see the chewed up edge on the bottom "barbell". This came out of a Colt Government and was the result of repeated impact with the firing pin.

Here's the firing pin out of the same pistol. You can see the results of it impacting the plunger at about the 1 o'clock position.

Oof, that plunger is beat up bad. If I didn't have a pin I'd clean that one up but that plunger is thrashed. Colt kind of pisses me off they eliminated the 2 and 3 levers and it can be hard to get an N at times. The N isn't a guaranteed drop in also, if tolerance stacking is right it may raise the plunger too much and you're back to contact. I haven't had the problem but I haven't done near what the smiths do. It sounded like Logman has run into it but he can modify the original levers without the n lever.

No dog in this fight but IMHO this isn’t the Clark Custom of the 60’s , 70’s or 80’s.
Beautiful! That era of the Combat Elite holds a very special place in my heart. And without a trigger adjustable for over travel, I doubt you'll ever have problems with the Series 80 parts - though a check for drag on the plunger as shown in the pictures here is a good idea. Mine has been solid through decades and untold thousands and thousands of rounds. And yes, that's skate tape on the frontstrap. :ROFLMAO:  I've often thought about having it checkered, but she's basically retired now...and the tape works great! (y)

I am going to order all new parts except for frame, barrel and slide so any small part or spring is going to be new and fit to the gun

They do make filler to eliminate the 2 levers but being a carry gun opens up a big grey area legally if you are forced to use it. There are some that say you can't get a nice trigger with the levers but it isn't true unless you want a spooky trigger, I've had my commander at 3 even and it was still smooth and crisp. Couldn't keep that of course since it's for carry now.
