    I'm in the market for a 9mm 1911 with a rail.
Looking for a headspace check here to see if I've overlooked anything, but I think I have a decent read of the current market in 2019. So, given a budget of $1500+/- I think there are three candidates that bear attention:

Dan Wesson Specialist. They seem to be the go-to choice for anyone that wants to buy a gun and just run it. Any issues to be aware of? Will they take longer 147 loads, or do they need reamed? Good frames?

Colt Combat Unit 9mm. I wanted one bad, until I happened across multiple reviews detailing issues with function and small parts fitment, and subsequent slow/questionable customer service. Apparently the barrels and their fit are excellent, as is the ionbond finish, and the frame and slide are well executed. I also like having front cocking serrations.

Springfield Armory Operator(s). I understand the small parts and their fitment to be hit or miss. A common comment is that they have great customer service, but you stand decent odds of having to use it. Also, I don't care for supporting Illinois politics, however you feel about that.

That's what I have so far. Did I miss anyone's 9mm 1911 offering in that price ballpark? Bear in mind, I have no experience with any of the above; this is just what I've been able to surmise by perusing the forums and youtubes. If I'm off base, please square me away. Can't wait to get y'all's thoughts.

I have the Colt. Had to tension the extractor. Since then, sewing machine. Everyone in my circle loves to shoot it. Soft shooting, hits where you point it.

    Series 80 trigger.

The Dan Wesson, all things being equal, is arguably the better choice on paper.

I really dig the Ionbond and the Colt frame with high cut trigger guard fits me better than the DW Remsport frame.

The usual Addict answer is buy both on the Classifieds. Or buy the DW and have FCS added and have it Ionbonded.
I can't speak to the Springer, never owned one never will.
    Not much help. :)

Mine was Colt Competition, not a Rail Gun. But it came factory pre-scratched (happens) and snapped off it's own ejector on the second magazine I fired through it. I sent it off to Nighthawk, who made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. But I'd look at Dan Wesson before I looked at Colt again for a 9mm.

I got a DW Specialist Commander in 45 and have a DW Vigil Commander in 9mm on layaway. I love DW guns. I really wanted a Colt 9mm Commander but for same price I get way better product in my opinion.

I guess any of the guns on your list
    would be good choices, however
    I have 6 Dan Wesson’s in 9mm,
all of which ran perfectly out of the box. None are a specialist but that is not my point. Dan Wesson has figured out the 9mm 1911 and they are flat out the best money spent in a production gun in your stated range IMHO. And the specialist is a top value of Dan Wesson’s currently available Guns still in production.

    Good luck in your search.

I had a commander size Specialist in 9mm I recently sold, very nice firearm and would be my choice again if it fit in with my goals to have a railed 9mm but it no longer did so....

I total agree with this assessment of DW. If production that’s the way to go.

In the SA group, look for a Lipsey edition Operator. Very nice gun with some parts upgraded with tool steel. The range officers are good for the money, but in your price range you can do much better with DW or that Lipsey gun. I own a Valor which is sweet, but no rail.
