This might be the most inspiring thread I've seen. It looks like everything is coming together wonderfully, and I applaud your willingness to dive in.

I'm soon to dive in on my own project. It's killing me to wait but I'm about to move across the country. I'll have a real workshop and space for projects, project no. 1 is to "ruin" a 1911. I'll be referencing this thread constantly.

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks!
I have made a bunch of small mistakes. Now that one side of the slide is bare, it is hard to leave the roll marks on the other side.
they are a little shallow, and it is very tempting to wipe them off.
I like the bare slide look. I have to mull that over.
I am anxious about finishing, and half tempted to send it off, but I really would like t do this whole gun on my own.
Wait and see, I guess

Don't do it. One of the reasons to start with this gun is those roll marks. "Limited Edition", ok that's cheesy, but 1940's wartime roll marks, not cheesy.

Re-cut the french border and cocking serrations. I am pretty happy with how they came out. Got the Apex “tank tread” hammer and installed and tested it.
Breaks nice and clean now (egw sear and disconnector) at 4.25 lbs.
I may have to sub-out some work. The guys at MGW quoted me $200 to chase/deepen the rollmarks on the slide. They explained that since they are still present (if shallow) it is way easier and it would be in and out fast. I really, REALLY want to do everything I can in-house, but this is something I have zero experience in, and no talent for.
Meanwhile, bought the propane burner from Home Depot and bluing salts from Midway. Should have those next week.

Going out of my mind with the Chen safety.
ordered on the 13th. Shipped on the 14th. Arrived Kansas City, left Kansas City, arrived St Louis, left St. Louis (I live 30 miles west of STL). Arrived Kansas City, left Kansas City, etc.
Still not here. It is three hours drive from KC to STL. But two weeks later it is not here. Killing me.
But at least I fitted the bushing.
