Dan Wesson straight 8 sight picture

Has anyone had experience with the straight 8 sights on Dan wessons. I seem to shoot low only with this setup. I’ve read multiple forums where some valors and specialists had taller front sights that were wrong. I own a specialist commander. Any help would be appreciated as I own a Baer and I shoot good as hell with it but it has target sights.

See I always have liked a black out rear. Either a fiber optic for the front or gold bead is always the go to for me. I just can’t shoot well enough with the straight 8s. Guess I’ll change them out and see if my shooting with it increases in accuracy

I’ll take that into consideration, I just don’t feel like it’s me dropping the gun or anything, I shoot every other gun I have perfect fine besides that one
I have a Valkyrie Commander with the same issue that had to be sent to DW get a shorter front sight installed under warranty.

Not a fan. I prefer a Blacked Out Rear and Green Fiber Optic or Tritium Front.

So it’s best to say to swap out the sights then. Appreciate the info.
Not saying it's you, but I have heard people say they try and stack the dots like snowmen, touching and not how Heine intended for the sight picture to be

My straight eight sights are some of my favorite fixed sights. I shoot most low because I prefer target sights (aka through the target) vs tactical cover the target style sights (no idea how to be accurate if I’m covering up the target honestly). If you were high I’d understand, but low seems like an issue with the front height. I’d send it in as a first (and hopefully free) option

See when I use that sight picture it just looks like the front post is slightly taller so I’m looking at it from a slant.

If you call DW and tell them your issue they will take care of you. I almost recall they had me shoot a target and send it or take a pic. It has been several years ago and I am getting old. 😉

I’ve had the gun for about 8 months. Took it out to shoot twice on multiple occasions. And both times shot low. But I’m spot on with all my other guns.

I didn’t like them on my valor but I like them just fine on the discretion. I swapped the rear sight on the vbob with a 10-8 U notch and I shoot it much more consistently.

I actually prefer Straight 8's for irons... of course now at 52 I prefer RDS since I can hardly see the front sight clearly anymore.
I have 2 DW,s Valkyrie's with straight 8 sights, one commander 9mm and one 45 CCO. At first I had issues with up and down but realized I was tryoing to watrch the two dots instead of the correct front sight concetration. Once I started concetrating on the front sights (both guns) my groups tighted up considerably. The 45 was right on, the 9mm was high at 25 yards by about 4 or 5 inches. Dan Wesson sent me a new sight and all is good. The straight sight is excellent for close range (7 or 10 yard) combat speed drills, at least for me. BTW each pistol now has at least a couple thousand rounds and NO failures of any kind with all kinds of cheap ammo and reloads.

Hated them at first, now I enjoy them far more than the red fiber fronts.
My Guncrafter Industries model #3 came with them, It took me a while but I got used to them. I don't even notice the difference anymore.
