I am wanting a 9mm 1911. I like my DW Vbob so I'm looking at the Valkyrie and Guardian. I like the sights and mainspring housing checkering on the Valkyrie better. But what makes it $400 more than the Guardian? Is it worth it?

If you like your DW V-BOB you will like the Guardian. I have the Guardian in 9mm and like the hand feel of the gun. Only have held and examined the Valkyrie, and beside no Bobtail, but great G10 grips and recessed slide stop hole have been tempted to get it in 9mm. While your at it Throw in the DW ECO and the Night Hawk T4. True addiction!

It all depends on which Valkyrie or the Valkyrie commander. The straight Valkyrie is a CCO (officer frame). With the Guardian, you get a commander size bobtail. But, the MSH has no checkering. But you get three dot night sights. The wood grips and the lack of checkering on the bobtail have the potential to loosen the grip a little bit. If you have both front and back checkering, that gun isn't going anywhere. But, in a 9mm, the gun really isn't going anywhere usually when you are talking about light recoil. The key for me is with the Guardian, you get the 3 dot night sights and not the straight 8s. Though you can change out both the grips and the sights, that cost extra. Commander size is what it is all about in the Guardian.

With the Valkyrie, unless you are talking about the commander, you don't have the bobtail, you have a shorter frame grip (CCO), but you have the checkering on the MSH that you don't have on the Guardian as well. Plus you get those G10 grips. Again, 9mm, with light recoil, it isn't as much of an issue. You do not get 3 dot sights though. You get straight 8s.

The extra cost of the Valkyrie is in the aesthetics (ball cuts, carry cuts, recessed (beveled/countersunk) slide stop hole). That is what you are paying for. Do you want or need the extra stuff?? That's up to you. I like the 3 dot sights better on the Guardian. But, I also like the checkering and grips better on the Valkyrie. Don't need the officer frame. If you are on a stiff budget, the Guardian fits the bill, unless you don't like Bobtails.

    I have both

if you want to carry a DW--go with the valkyrie commander if it is just a toy either will suit you well. The guardian is a bit larger

both have alloy frames. both took me a while to get used to. both ar e great shooters to own

neither is poa=poi and how it shoots depends on finger position on the trigger.

    you cannot lose with either

If you like everything about the Guardian other than the smooth MSH, here's a solution.
This is what I plan on doing to mine. Otherwise, I absolutely love my Guardian.
Ed Brown Bobtail MSH... choose snakeskin, checkered, chainlink or chainlink II....

Thanks for all the responses. It will be the Commander size for sure. I like the idea of having 10 rounds with the Wilson mags. I like the straight eight sights also. So, if I end up with a guardian I will change the sights.

If your going to carry 10 round Wilson mags you aren't really going to get the big benefit of the bobtail on guardian. As the mag is extended past the magwell. And if changing the sights you might as well just buy the valkyrie it's the nicer gun anyway.

Both are nice, but the Valkyrie has the extra wow factor.

Sounds like you should get the Valkyrie. Makes no sense to go the other route and then spend another 100+ on the sights and then installation. If you decide to go the Guardian, let me know, I would be interested in your take off sights for my Specialist.

Sounds like you guys might just want to swap the rear sights

OP, I think you need them both but I would say buy the Valkyrie first since you already have one bobtailed commander.

Is there a better place than grabagun or Buds Gun shop to buy them? That seems to be the best prices I find.

Think both guns use the Novak dovetail. Can someone confirm that?

I have the Guardian in 38 super, and like it a lot! With the alloy frame, she's a great carry piece. But I do have to admit, coveting the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie would need to be chambered in super, though.

    Perhaps a Custom Shop request...

I much prefer the full grip of the Guardian rather than the officer grip on the Valkyrie. Just my opinion.

I finally made a decision. I ordered a Wilson Combat EDC 9X. I know I'ts more than I wanted to spend but hopefully I won't regret it. That will curb my knife buying for a while. The Sebenza will have to wait.
