So, today I was messing around on GB and came across a Wilson Contemporary Classic. This is a gun that I never thought I would own due to not getting into 1911's until sometime after 2012... In which case these were gone by that time.

This was a 100 year commemorative pistol that Wilson only made 100 of. It comes in a nice show display box and has all the bells and whistles Wilson was known for back then.

With that said, its also a special gun because it is what literally lead me to this forum, lead me to meet many of you all... including amazing smiths who's guns I have bought over the years... like Joe Chambers and Brandan Bunker... along with many of you other guys!

Given the firearm market, I have found some real gems of late... and this one if no exception. I personally figured that these guns would always retain there 4K price tag regardless of market... I def got this one for much less.

She isnt in my hands yet, but will be within the week. So... Do I shoot it or hold onto it and admire it? The only reason I am contemplating this is simply due to the other 1911's I have. I am not sure this one stands up to whats in the stable already.

Anyway... what say you all... shoot her or keep her clean forever!

Pics when I get it obviously!

I’ve read a response from a similar situation. Basically, it goes like this:

Not shooting your custom/collector/barbecue (etc.) firearm is like not sleeping with your supermodel girlfriend because your saving her for her next boyfriend to enjoy.

Kinda... only when you have 5 of the hottest ones (who are 10's)... and the new girl-although still hot is only an 8... There is really no point. lol

What number are you getting? I used to have #77 but sold it unfired in 2011 when market pricing got too high to ignore. If I still had it now, I’d definitely shoot it.

The Turnbull charcoal bluing and build quality on them was very nice. Aside from the Contemporary Classics, very few Wilson’s shipped out with those blued carbon steel barrels and lanyard loop MSHs. Enjoy it!

It’s number 83. If you look at my Bunker Arms BA0007... a lot of the inspiration came from this Wilson gun.

No doubt the Bunker is the superior gun, but... just something about this commemorative model... it’s always called my name!

Yeah, all my guns have seen range time.. and holster time... most of all my “Ferrari’s” got run and out through the paces. I’m sure I’ll shoot this new one as well... most of the time Incan help myself!

I say shoot 'em all! Put some fancy grips on the 8 and maybe she'll look like a 10, if she still isn't quite there, drink a beer or two and look again, works every time.

Sorry for the derail, I really want an Alchemy. Unfortunately Simon and I are regulated to pre-Cabot builds on roster legal guns. Rob is great.

If you are unable to handle the personal pain of actually firing your new found prize, I will be glad to shoulder the burden of doing so. Pics will be provided to you and the forum.
