Do you top off your magazine?

Load the magazine, chamber a round, then top off the magazine and put it back in?

Here's why I'm asking. I was doing a function test of my extractor, put a round in the slide, make sure it doesn't fall out and ejects out the ejection port. It passed. But I think I noticed today that when the chambered round had a full, topped-off magazine under it, it will be dificult to eject the chambered round. The slide will not easily come back when pulled. When I give it a good yank it moves and the chambered round ejects. However, when the magazine under the chambered round was not topped off, this hard pull to get the slide to go back is not necessary. It just slides right back like butter, and the chambered round ejects.

Hope I explained that well enough.

I always just lock the slide back, drop a round right into the barrel, and drop the slide. Then I put a fully loaded mag in... My guns stay fully loaded 95% of the time tho, so it is always filled to the max...

That's a good way to destroy your extractor... The extractor is not mean to go OVER the casing's rim, it was design to slide over it, as the round is feed from the mag into the chamber.

Someone might say, "Why should I? There's not much difference between nine and eight."

That may be true. But there's a big difference between one round left and no rounds left.

I use a barney mag, I find it to be less of a pain.

I guess I'll be the odd man out, I always lock slide to rear, insert fully loaded mag ( 8 round mag), release slide via slide stop, holster and go about my business.
    I do not top off.

I load to full capacity. However, I always load my spare magazine with one round and chamber it. Then I insert a full loaded mag. When I chamber the round, I ride the slide into batteri slowning the speed down with my fingers on the slide.
By using this method, you'll go easier on expensive selfdefense type ammo, and the chambered round won't become shorter so fast.
