From dropping the slide on an empty chamber to flipping your revolver cylinder shut, these are some things you never want to do to a handgun.

Totally agree. I don’t drop the slide on anything, on an empty chamber, 1911 or not. I only have 1 revolver, old Smith model 10. I don’t slam anything. I just don’t understand why people think it’s necessary to slam parts together. It is beyond me.

I cringe when anyone drops the slide on a auto. On a 1911 I go through the roof! I see employees at gun shops do it. If I'm the boss, your fired. I refuse to by a display model of any gun. Period. :eek1:

Yes, you have a point. Those High Point trigger jobs will stand up to a good beating!

Ought to be in every owners manual and gun course taught. I know when I began shooting I was ignorant (and guilty) of these facts.

    Odd man out....again.
But dropping the slide on an empty chamber on a 1911
does not hurt the trigger job UNLESS it falls to half-cock.
And if the hammer half-cock is properly narrowed, no damage to the trigger job at all.
It does stress multiple parts, such as SLAMMING the door on your Mercedes, and there is NO reason to do so.

Think I've seen this before but certainly some good thoughts and tips on operating 1911's and any semi autos, wheelies as well.

Thank you for this reply. I’ve wanted to hear from a 1911 smith on this topic for a long time, specifically the effect on the trigger job.
