Eclipse 10mm to 9mm conversion (SUCCESS)

Just in case anyone wanted to try this. Come back from the range and it worked great! This is the Kimber Eclipse Custom II chambered in 10mm, I converted it to 9mm.

Took a 19# mainspring, 12# recoil spring, and new barrel. I had to hand fit the barrel with filing, sanding, and lots of hand cycling. Went to the range and had some cycling issues. So I drenched it in oil and it cycled perfectly. Locks up tight and has very little recoil. The spring is still breaking in. Put 125rds in.

I don't understand why anyone would be surprised. The extractor (if properly tuned) grabs and holds the cartridge against the breach face. The breach face pushes the cartridge into the chamber. The cartridge is fired, the brass pushes the breach face back, the extractor pulls the brass out of the chamber, and the ejector punches it out of gun. The 10mm and the 9mm both use the same firing pin, extractor (or pretty close), and the same ejector.

What's the big deal? :)

Maybe not a big deal to you, but pretty cool to me. I did find a lot of naysayers though, and it just made me want to do it ever more =)

I think most people don't like to tinker with things, and the idea of a firearm shooting multiple calibers freaks them out:

I tinker/build pistols all the time (see my avatar). My 10mms both have 40 S&W barrels fitted for them. I'm not a fan of 9x19, but I might try a 9x23 someday or build another 38 Super.

Just because you can don't mean you should.

10mm and .40 is an easy swap because the case is the same diameter. I didn’t know you could just swap a barrel and run 9mm. That’s awesome!
