I initially grabbed this early S/N, Ed Brown SF from a fellow Addict in Gen 1 Finish, but unfortunately the Plunger Tube popped loose upon receipt (not his fault of, course).

Figured while it was out for warranty work, might as well get some light customization done.

Turn around time was FAST. About 2 1/2 weeks from ship to the return home.

After about 4 1/2 hours of scrubbing all the residual Salt Bluing rust residue off (yes, EB left it on/it was pretty bad), underneath, I must say was a very nice, very uniformed blackish blue finish. Only thing I would have done differently was added some ball cuts and get the flats polished.

Overall, I'm pretty damn happy with the work and upgrades:

-Refinish Complete 1911, Blue
-Flatten/Serrate Top
-New Ambi-Thumb Safety fitted/Installed
-Extended Mag Release
-HRT Cut
-Solid Long Trigger
-Tactical Edge .140 U-Notch Rear Sight
-Crown & Recess barrel
-HFG Cocobolo Grips
-Wilson Combat Blued Slotted Grip Screws

I thought EB was out of the bluing business

Very nice..who did the refinish? I didn’t think Ed Brown did bluing anymore. It looks incredible.

Yup, EB still blues!

Thing is-past a certain SN range, I believe EB moved to all stainless with their builds. So, you are pretty much stuck with their Gen 4 coating, or God forbid, Cerakote if you don’t want your gun in the white.

I lucked out. As even though my SN was past the carbon steel “cut off date”, the OG build sheet specified that it was indeed, carbon steel. Only thing I’m regretting, is not having requested polishing the flats prior to refinish. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Ed Brown started having steel sourcing/supply problems at the very beginning of the Covid crap. I assume they decided on a single, reliable source in the end and said goodbye to carbon steel. Our communist overlords screwed a whole lot of things up for us in their quest for perpetual power. Good riddance!

Gorgeous Special Forces! Blueing that actually looks blue; love it!

I'm not doubting you at all. I'm jealous I missed out actually. I started trying in 2012 to get another satin blue carbon gun from EB. Was told repeatedly they had gone to all stainless production since 2010 and didnt foresee that ever changing. I missed that it was ever on the web build page, so its back to forums and GB to find one I guess.
