They have come A LONG WAY these past several years! I like buying cheap knives, both folders & fixed blades for kitchen duties, or to throw in my camp box for kitchen duties... Not the best in any category, but impressive for the money. I have a Frost fixed blade as an example ($5?) I bought years & years ago (15 years ago?) that would shock most people how well it holds an edge! Worst handle geometry, but REMARKABLE considering it cost $5! Ive NEVER seen another Frost I ever liked... Prolly 420 steel, but heat treated THE RIGHT WAY (think Buck Knives). I couldnt list all of mine here, but if they werent worthy, they wouldnt still be here! Im a DIEHARD Whitetail deer hunter since I was 11 years old (I know a thing or two about knives). Bob Dozier lives about 35-40 miles from me, & I have owned upwards of 30 or more of his customs. Talked to him for 30 years? Not to mention all the other famous custom makers Ive owned. Id rather pay $25 for a cheap fixed blade or folder (how good they are nowdays) & fill my kitchen drawer with those as over-performing/vs./price type knives, than buy overpriced non-performing kitchen knives that dont serve well in either roll! I LOVE having a drawer full of folders & fixed blade "outdoor/skinning/bushcraft" knives in the kitchen that I can go & grab for wilderness duties also if need be. Anyone buy a CHEAP knife If Im gonna blow $3-$400 or more on a knife, that money would go towards a gun! Cheap knives have come A LONG WAY!
