I’m against open carry in public for myself but nobody deserves that.

That's awful.

While I don't personally open carry and generally advise against it, it's important to note that not all open carry is created equal. I see a big difference between carrying open in a duty-style holster with active locks/retention vs. carrying in basically a nylon sock with maybe a velcro strap. I would be curious to know how this individual was carrying and what holster he was using.

I haven't open carried since we changed our law to allow it, if you have a CC permit. I may open carry going to and from the range at some point. Otherwise, it's just not something I think is wise.

I'm glad they passed it. It means we can't get in trouble for printing/exposing our guns in public.

I understand what you are saying about folks that open carry need a strong retention holster. But for me personally, it's more than just preventing your gun from being grabbed, it also about advertising "Hey I have a gun." If I am only around righteous people all day who would never think about taking my gun, I still don't want them looking at me thinking "He is carrying a gun." It serves no purpose for them to know I have a gun but does provide the opportunity for a confrontation.

Yes, and that's why I think if you're going to make the decision to open carry, you need to take affirmative steps to prevent someone from snatching your gun. I would still prefer to avoid the situation entirely and not open carry, but because I know some still will, they should choose gear specifically with this type of threat in mind.

I know others here have said that open carry is fine so long as you practice 100% 360 degree situational awareness. I'm not sure I believe that's doable. And as far as locking retention holsters, what if the bad guy knows how it works and just thumbs the catch off before they grab it???

There is too much downside with open carry in our society today to make it viable for me. There's no need to let bad guys know what you have, or get the rep of "that guy always carries" and make yourself a target. There are too many busy bodies who will make a scene. In some jurisdictions, it will get you extra scrutiny from the police. A fish wouldn't get caught if it kept its mouth shut, some info is best kept to yourself.

Bullshat.

They'll let him out within a few months and blame a gunshow loophole or the dead guy must have muttered something racis.

The mugshots all look the same, but nothing much ever changes.

Sad by true.
“The Dunkin’ dining area remained closed to customers through Saturday, while the drive-thru stayed open.”

Well that’s a relief! At least customers could get their Boston cremes while the workers had to work through some PTSD...

...or just another Saturday?

Maybe it has always happend but I feel like I'm seeing more videos and reading more articles about people getting their guns snatched and then shot with them. I don't see a lot of people open carrying but when I do I feel like rarely is it in a holster with any type of retention.
Florida has worked on open carry for a while but quite a few years ago they added a provision that if your concealed peaks out from reaching up, bending over whatever you can't be busted. I have only seen it a few times but it's usually someone mid 40s up wearing a vest of some sort standing or leaning on a counter talking to someone with 1/2 the holster hanging out. These dumasses don't care but those that don't know their cover snagged and didn't quite conceal again will thank you. This is in a small redneck 'city', Lord what happens in the major cities. I almost hope it never passes since we have the peaking statute unless some of these dillweeds screw that up.

We have open carry on the republic of Texas. Unless I am on a ranch with a drop leg or shoulder rig, I always carry concealed. Nothing like an Indians jersey with my favorite player and caliber.
