Collectors are pleased with an original box. On a highly collectible firearm, the original box will bring the seller more money.

Otherwise I see plastic boxes selling on EBay for $20 - $50 regularly.

It is just as important for resale value to have the correct case for the pistol. Just because it's a Colt doesn't mean any Colt box will help.
