As a new 1911 addict I started disassembling my 1911 the "traditional" way....bushing, guide rod plug, spring, etc.

I've recently started using the Slide Stop 1st method. Curious as to how others are disassembling their guns.

Well...my bushing is pretty tight....so:

1) guide rod plug
2) Slide Stop
3) remove slide
4) remove guide rod & spring
5) remove bushing
6) remove barrel

Kind of a hybrid approach, I guess.....

When I first started I did bushing first. Now I do slide stop first. It seems to keep the bushings tighter in my limited experience. The only tricky part was catching the recoil spring, but after a few times it's easy. Plus you won't scrape up your plug. I see zero reason to do it the other way now.

ETA: The idiot scratch notch is a major benefit. All slide stops should have them.

I do it both ways, depends on the gun.
