There was a member on Toos who owns like four or five of them.
Beautiful guns for sure.

Wow, amazing piece of history. As someone who is relatively new to 1911s as a carry option, I must say I remain incredibly impressed at what JMB put together over 100 years ago.
It's an amazing artifact, that's for sure.

After sleeping on it something stuck with me. Here’s the thread where Gordon shared his first day Colts. They were numbers 1-40.
The man and others in the thread are some of the most respected collectors known. Notice the differences. I’m not saying the Colt in the Op is not original. But I do not believe it to be a 1st day Colt. There was a transition to the polished blue and fire blue parts soon after the 1st day ones were made. Also one in Op is #49 which would lead one to believe is was not one of the first 40 made on the first day.
To get a better idea of what this one is should probably post it in the vintage subforum there.

Notice serial number on other side of frame and United States property on frame as well. These are different from the gun in the Op.

Just a wonderful example. The exterior finishes on the old Colts were simply amazing.
Edit: never mind. I see those are USGI models. So the one in Op must be a first day commercial gun.
The original pistol shown is a GOVERNMENT MODEL, the other pistols are Model of 1911. More and more everything that evolved from the original pistol is called a 1911.

It's similar to Velcro and Kleenex!

Yes, first day production of Government Model (commercial) was a different day than first day production M1911 (military).
I think its underpriced.
