No doubt, the NHC Classic has been one of Nighthawk's most popular models. Anybody know the story behind the first NHC Classic? Information on Nighthawk's website indicates this model originated from one of their gunsmith's application to the American Pistolsmith's Guild. Anybody know which gunsmith was the first to build a Classic and how many years they have been making this particular model?
How about the GRP, anybody know its origin and when Nighthawk first came out with it? Curious if it came about before or after the Classic.
I read about it but that was many beers ago and I don’t remember. I do know that the SS Classic is my favorite pistol they build. Both Gov and Commander sized. The only two NHCs I really lust over would be a matched set in 9mm.
It was built by Allen Wyatt for his submission and acceptance into the Guild. Bob Reeves informed med me of this when I recently acquired one, and inquired.
Allen is currently in charge of their Research and Development.
Yep, Allen Wyatt designed it as noted above. I asked in 2018 if he could build me one, but was told since he’s head of R&D, he doesn’t really build new customer guns anymore. I thought it would have been cool to have the gun built by the designer, but no such luck.
The GRP has been around quite a while. I think it was one of their original model offerings. I know it was least being offered in 2007 when I ordered my first Talon back then.
It’s origins were likely to be a comparable offering to the CQB from WC and the SRP from Baer. All are optioned very similarly.
The GRP came out in the mid-2000's to compete with the CQB from WC, SRP from LB, Special Forces from EB, and TRP from SA. A no nonsense fighting pistol.
