Girsan MC1911 Hunter 10mm opinions?

706 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Deschain
My LGS is selling the Girsan Hunter 6-inch in 10 mm new for $599.

I'm strongly tempted to pick one up, as I've wanted a longslide 1911 and a 10 mm for awhile.

Has anyone had experience with these? From the vague wording about "fully machined frame and slide," I suspect the frame is cast rather than forged.

Thanks!

I've heard good things about Girsan, but I'd love to know about anyone's personal experiences with these guns.

I e-mailed EAA and asked for clarity on whether the slides and frames are cast, forged, or machined from bar stock.

Update: Got this terse but informative reply today from EAA.

Frame: Forged and fully machined
Slide: Cold drawn and fully machined
So I picked one up. The gun's frame and slide are very tightly fitted. Sorta concerned about barrel fit, though. When the gun is closed and locked, i can push down on the chamber ... it moves slightly. They had five Girsan Hunters in the shop ... all of them did that. Is that a huge issue? All my other 1911s (all 5-inch .45s) have no movement.

I looked very hard at this Girsan and went with a RIA 6 inch double stack! I have a 2011 10mm that had issues..... When I pushed on the barrel ALOT of movement.....It is back at the manufacturer

I'll buy some 10 mm today and see if there is still movement with a round chambered. The shop's prices on 10 mm seemed a bit high ... going to Academy Sports later to pick some up.
No, being able to push down the barrel hood is not an issue. Not for me anyway. Why are you asking about that now AFTER you spent the money?
Nice gun BTW. Congrats.

Thanks! When I checked it in the shop, I did not see any play ... it's why I bought this one. I must have checked it before racking it ... someone else had already pushed it down. Just noticed it when I got home.
@G26S239 very good point lol he already bought the pistol lol anything we said good or bad is irrelevant

Well, I took it to the range today ... it was reliable and accurate (based on 100 rounds). Recoil is not bad at all.
