Just trying to get an idea of what some people recommend. I'd like to not go much higher than $100.00 and I'm interested in earmuffs only.

Are the noise cancelling capabilities really that good? distinguishing between gunshot and voices?

While I am sure the more expensive ones are better. I have been using a pair of Caldwell electronic ones that cost me about $30 - $40 on sale. They work great. The only things is when the batteries start getting week they can develop a hum which is dang annoying. So I keep a fresh set of batteries handy.

Mine are Caldwell noise canceling. I'm thinking I paid about $60.00 five years ago. I still put some foamies in first, then slip on the Caldwells.

Bought some Sportsman's Guide brand electric muffs ten years ago. Ten years later they are rough but they still work, but yeah, they get that hum when the batteries need replaced. Bought some new Winchester muffs and they seem nice.

Howard Leights THunder 29's were my go to muff for years. They of course changed the design and are not as good now in my opinion. Walker has some thin low profile shotgun muffs that are only about 20db reduction. They came out with a about a 30db reduction pair that are just a little thicker and just have a little slice of denser foam inside. I have a pair of Caldwell green flight deck muffs that work great when shooting pistols. Midway carries a pair of black flight deck muffs rated 39db reduction but I can't remember who makes them. Foam plugs properly inserted are the best for rifle shooting. I don't do the electronic muffs as their noise reduction is only in the low 20's. All the muff's I listed are less than $50 a pair.
