Hi, I've 1911G model and I think I need to shorten the guide rod length by about 1/16 of an inch. the pistol has a compensator and won't let me remove the 1 piece gun rod? help?

You need one of these or something like it.

If you are compensated then you will probably be running a 12-14Lb. recoil spring. Check with Les Baer as they manufacture compensated pistols and can help you with a wrench, flat wire spring and proper guide rod.

The compensator is attached to the barrel, so you need to put this wrench on the bushing, depress the spring plug and turn clockwise while controlling the plug! Let the plug come out under control and disassemble like normal for a 1911.

Remove the slide from the frame as an entire assembly. Once removed, break the slide down. Easier than shortening the flgr
